Auxiliary Battery Malfunction

Hi , I just received a message "Auxiliary Battery Malfunction" on my 2013 E250 , so I went to the dealer here in Israel , I was told the little battery is only for the ECO stop start , they were asking for the little battery over $650 US , this is un believable , I requested the dealer for a "goodwill" as I was only a few months over the warranty, I am waiting for a reply.

Could anyone tell me where can I get this Battery cheaper ? if they dont give me the "Goodwill"

Thank you

Aux battery in the dash is for the electronic tranny selector and is cheap here in US. stop start battery is in the trunk area. Which one is bad?

Its crazy expensive here in Israel . $650 US.

I don't think you have my model E250 2013 in the US , but I know you have there C250 which is a 2000CC Turbo.

Thanks.

You confirmed at the dealer that the ECO battery is indeed dead? Usually the Aux Batt warning is for the small battery at the dash for the shifter as referenced above. I don't believe there is a dash warning for the ECO battery in your trunk. I would hate to see you replace that ECO battery just to start the car and receive the same warning that the AUX Batt needs attention.

After only a couple years none of your batteries should need replacement. Check all the connections and fuses first.

I had forgotten that the Euro models appear to have the center stick shifter from the photos I have seen. That would mean there is no need in the in dash aux battery for the electronic tranny selector.

My car is a euro model , I don't have a center shifter , my shifting is done next to the steering wheel.

Yes , the dealer confirmed that this battery needs to be replaced , do you think that I have 2 Auxiliary batteries ? one for the electronic shifting and one for the ECO ?

The warning that I get just says: AUXILIARY BATTERY MALFUNCTION

I'm all confused now with all of the contrasting posts. I have no idea what your problem is. Your dealer says the ECO battery needs to be replaced based on a warning that says your Auxiliary Battery is bad. Fisch says you have a center console shifter; you say you have a column shifter. Seriously, I don't know what is going on. Good luck.

Well I was basing the center shifter off pictures I have seen others post on here of euro models. I am personally not familiar with the features of the euro models. But if the OP says his car has the electronic shifter on the steering column then I would suspect the car also has the same aux battery in the dash that we have here in the states.

OP, I suggest you check out this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...placement.html

And I suggest you find another repair shop for a second opinion.

As you can see in the picture, my Auxiliary battery is in the trunk and its a different one from the older 2010 E350.

I have to be at the dealer on Monday and I'll let you know what came out.

Does anybody have a similar Battery in their car ?

Every single Mercedes made with ECO-*** has this battery in the trunk. What is your question? Just replace it as you've been told by your dealer. Obviously, they know everything.

Since you have a steering column mounted transmission selector you might have another aux battery (separate from the ECO one in the trunk) behind the dash in the steering column area. The sole purpose of this battery is to allow you to shift into neutral for towing should the main battery die.

If you want cheaper, try contacting other repair shops or search online with the part number.

Personally I would rule out that is it not the smaller aux battery in the dash for the tranny selector. It is easy to locate that battery if you follow the instructions in the thread I posted earlier.

this battery issue is common for all mercedes with ECO, but i read/heard it happens more with the new W212, and that the aux battery almost always die within 2 years (right after warranty). when it does, the auto-hold becomes malfunction as well.

i sold my 2010 W212 and just picked up a 2016 S212 now with ECO, i manually turn ECO off after starting the engine every time. some say by doing so prolongs the battery life, some say it's the other way around. does anyone know which is true?

I have a MY14 with less than 15K miles (a few weeks ago) and had my aux battery replaced by the dealer under warranty. Aside from the message indicating a malfunctioning aux battery, I had lost my Hold/Eco feature. Once the battery was replaced, the Hold/Eco feature returned to normal.

I just got this same message " Auxillary battery malfunction" two days in a row. It happened only in the morning (I know it's cold ) when I start up the car. During that time the Eco start stop doesn't work. When I restart the car after driving a few miles it goes away. As mentioned by the OP I've also noticed that the brake hold function also doesn't seem to work during that period.
I will talk to dealer today. I'm sure the message won't be there at that time.

In 2014+ the location of the aux battery changed. I think it may also depend on the type of engine you have too, either in the trunk or under the hood, it's for the eco start/stop function.

Is it the same part though? I've already bought the part.... Lol....its the Blutec 4Matic 2.1L L4 diesel 2015 e250 Benz. Any idea where I can narrow down the search for this battery location?
