Battery

How long should I expect my battery to last? Coming up on 4 years on 2012 E Class. 46,000 almost all highway miles. Best replacement brand?

I would change it - every 4 years. That's the limit for me. Batteries are inexpensive and not worth the aggravation(if they go dead).

I just run them until they fail ... and keep a fully charged jump pack in the trunk. Battery is going on 4 years in my 2012 E350.

Depends where you are in the country. In the hot states in the south, I can see them only lasting 4 years, but in the northeast where it's colder, my current AGM battery is 8 years old. It's the heat that tends to kill batteries and running them down too much.

Yes, here in TX we change our vehicle batteries every 3 years - we found out the hard way that they go with zero warning during the summer. Cheap piece of mind - especially with our Range Rover, which exhibits strange phenomena when the battery is slightly drained.

replacement brand should not matter so long as you get an AGM with adequate CCA. I think OEM is 800 or 850CCA. I went with a Bosch from Pep Boys, but I've seen posts on here of folks using brands from Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. Shop around and check details on warranty coverage. MB replacement will run you $350 or more and only comes with 2 year warranty. You can get a replacement with a 3 year or longer warranty for half the cost.

My last SLK ran 9 years and 91K miles on it's original battery until being totaled.

Since my 11 E350 has the same 272 engine I have a lot of faith on that battery,
I don keep a jump pack in the trunk though, mostly to jump my friend's VW or Lexus LOL

I had mine replaced last Feb.it lasted 4 years which is pretty normal,Your battery won't last as long if your car sits a lot.

My last two original MB batteries lasted about 8 years each. My original Volvo battery about the same. It has been my experience that in cold climates (such as Chicago) they need to be replaced more often.

Mine lasted 48 months and one week. Thought it was going from the way car started when cold, but waited until scheduled service appointment. On that day in December, it was dead. I don't drive it much, but with lots of short trips (

It's really the other way around. In the hot weather, the heat kills the battery, but the car requires less amps in hot weather and the warmer the temperature, the more amps the battery puts out so you don't notice in hot weather. In the cold weather, the amount of power needed to start the car goes up and with lower temperatures, the power output of the battery is lower so it seems like the cold killed the battery, but it really died in the summer, you just didn't notice it til the winter. Here's a map that shows that batteries last longer in colder climates.

That map is interesting. After living in a 'yellow' area for over 20 years, I moved 500 miles further south to a 'red' area for the last 7 years. Before moving, I found most conventional car batteries lasted 5-6 years or about 75k miles based on our usage. After moving in the red area, we bought a new Honda and it hasn't kept a battery longer than 3 years or 45k miles. The local auto supply stores all told me 3 years was average for down here, but I kept thinking that was sales talk. Perhaps there is some truth to that.

The cold affects batteries in odd ways. For many batteries, it will degrade performance, but improve longevity.

how many of you have ECO on your cars?
if you do, there are 2 batteries in your car actually, and the one supporting ECO (and auto-brake BAS) on average dies within 2 years (so i've heard).

Forgive the question... But where is the main battery in my 2014 E350 located? I know the secondary one is in the trunk, but where is the main one? I'll be darned but I don't see it under the hood...
