I am truly impressed with the gas mileage on my E550.

I usually don’t pay much attention to my gas mileage but I was really surprised last night. I went on a 3 hour trip last night and once i hopped on the highway i set my cruse control to 75 MPH. after half an hour of highway driving I looked at the mileage and it was showing 27.9 MPH and for the rest of the trip while I was on the highway it was over 27 MPH. I think this is great MPG for NA 5.5L engine. Just wanted to share …

Damm that's an NA car, too think the biturbo is suppose to get more. I am taking my biturbo tomorrow for a 250 trip and I would be very happy with 27.9. Well see, although I don't think I can contain myself at only 75 mph.

Wow impressive. I was going to make a trip a month ago to Virginia Beach from NJ. It's about 350 miles but at the last second plans changed. I'm hoping to do so in January sometime and see what kind of MPG I can get. Only thing that sux is the DMV area gets tons of traffic so even during a long road trip I might be in a bit of stop and go.

I have had always had the same results on the display (above 27 mpg on the open road) in my NA 550. Whether it is accurate or not, who cares?; these cars are on their best behavior when cruising down the highway. That is exactly what they are designed for.

it's almost same as my 2010 e350. Very impressive.

Computer is off from reality about 2.5% in average (in cars favor)

Nice

Every time I go to VA I noticed many of their speed limits are 70 as well. How great it would be if we had that up here. Although many people go over that usually anyway, including me with the flow of traffic.

I am also averaging 27-28 MPG on highway in my E550 Coupe (Bi-Turbo V8) and this is after a Stage 1 ECU Tune (500+ HP) which makes it even more amazing.

I get the same displayed in the car but the real number is somewhere between 24 - 25 MPG. I have been able to run a full tank of gas once with 28 MPG displayed in the cluster and the actual calculated from miles driven and gas used was 25 MPG , which still is quite good for this car with a true 5.5 L engine.

I did 1000 mi trip in my 2012 E550 Biturbo 4m, I average about 80-85mph on interstates. Computer was reset at beginning and said 25.5 MPG at the end of the trip. Still holding around 24.5 overall after city driving added on for about a month. Pretty good for a V8, and better than our V6 Nissan Murano crossover which only says about 21-22mpg average overall.

I went from just under 300hp and rwd to just over 400hp and awd WITHOUT a mpg penalty around town. On the hwy, my Merc is actually better than my old car. If this is progress, make it never stop!

I'm consistently getting 26mpg (hand-calc) on the hwy without resorting to any (many?) hypermiling techniques.

I agree...yesterday took off to Montreal from my home here in Ottawa and got an average of 8.4 L/100....which I find for my 2012 E550 just awesome.
Heading to Atlanta, Vegas then Seattle in February....that should show some interesting numbers

last trip I went on I got 33 mpg on my e350 4matic sport. That was doing about 75 most of the time and on a 1000 mile trip each way. The car is fantastic for gas mileage.

2012+ e350's have really improved fuel efficiency i guess. what kind of gas are you putting in your car? I notice 10% difference from brand to brand with same octane number.

You have to put in high octane. In Illinois it is a dollar more than the regular gas. It used to be about 30 cent difference. On My wife's Cadillac the best I can get is 26 mph Both are V6 Gas Cars.both require high octane. I just set the MB car on cruise and steer. It has excellent same speed going up and down hills. Best car I ever had for gas mileage.

Just yesterday filled up 18.1 gallons after 472 miles. This calculates to 26.1 MPG (9.1 L/100 km). This was done with non-ethanol fuel and amazingly the car showed 26.3 MPG, i.e. almost exactly the same as the calculated value was. This same happened before when I used non-ethanol fuel but did not think much about it but now makes me wonder if it is the ethanol in the fuel that puts the cluster MPG reading off...?

In NY they have retardedly low speed limits (like a 50 mph limit on a road that would be 65 just about anywhere else)... but it's (usually) ok as they (usually) don't enforce them.

Until they do. And then you end up with a 6pt ticket because you're going 25 over some asinine retarded low limit. Nevermind you were going the same reasonable speed you go everywhere else.

Just one more reason to hate this place I guess.

And for mileage, I've seen pretty good numbers for single legs of trips. I got over 21 on the CLK63, and I've seen over 25+ on a 100+ mile segment in the SL63.
