Interior water leak! Anyone else had a problem?
Hey Mercedes owners & drivers!
My name is Jun from California, U.S.
I drive 2012 E350 sedan and I always loved it and I am pretty sure that this is the most reliable sedan so far I ever had.
Here in Los Angeles, there are less rainfalls compared to other areas.
Last night, I drove through series of rainfall and all of a sudden, I noticed that there were few drops of water dripping from the ceiling.
I quickly got back home, parked under bright light and found out that there were about 3 leaks all over the interior. One from the passenger side ceiling, one from the sun roof, and one from the right side rear seat.
This morning, I brought my car to the dealer and now I am so worried about it since the warranty is almost over.
Has anyone had a same or similar issues? Would it be just simple as clogged drainage or something else with bigger cost?
Any ideas or suggestions are very welcomed!
Thanks.

i`ve had similar problem in my ML while back.
Check drain holes on your sunroof, there should be two , one on each side. In my case one of them got clogged with the small ball made from the chewing gum foil.

You say the warranty is almost over so you still have warranty. Have MB fix it and make sure the roof lining does not have stains left on it.
It probably is just clogged sunroof drain tubes.

You should be able to see the openings to the tubes along the track on the sides of the sunroof. If you search, I think konigstiger posted a parts diagram of the sunroof once before that showed the tubes.
From what my service advisor told me once, they sometimes have to clean some gunk out of the tracks. Now if the tracks are clear, maybe test the tubes with a little clean water to see if it drains or sits on one side or both. Not sure I would try to stick anything into the tubes without knowing how durable the tube material is. Hopefully, just clearing any gunk up top will do the trick.

Maybe some spiders were making camp in there since you said your rain is very infrequent. Clogged rain tubes are not uncommon.

Hopefully the dealer takes care of this since it's under warranty. This is one major reason I get my car dealer serviced. Cleaning the sunroof rails is part of the maintenance schedule and often skipped by independents/DIY. Having the dealer check the box is good insurance should something like this happen.

Thanks for all replies. Today I got my baby back and guess what the adviser said.
They conducted 3 car washes and 'shot' some high pressure water to the windshield, sunroof, and windows and found out there were NO leaks at all.
Every drainage below wipers and at the sunroof were working fine.. that's what they said.
As of now, I am positive that things are getting mysterious but well, I will have to trust my car it will never leak anymore.

Water leak complaint/repair attempt under factory warranty is officially documented by dated dealership invoice. I assume interior is not damaged at this time. Time stamp original photos if it should reoccur during the following 12 months (unlimited mileage) provide invoice copy along with time stamped original & reoccurrence photos to service manager – MBUSA should approve no cost repair inclusive of interior panels if affected.

I had same issue with 2012 E350
Dealer was not able to diagnose the problem.
Performed car wash, high water pressure and found no leaks.
Had it at dealership 3 times.
Best advise is contact md usa and open case.
There is tsb for this problem, i believe.

The dreaded "cannot duplicate." Argh!
It leaked in 3 places. Your stealer didn't do much or anything to fix it. Therefore, it is likely to re-occur in my opinion. I suggest taking konigstiger's solid advice about establishing photographic evidence "just in case."
Finding the specific TSB and returning your car back to the stealer is another solid suggestion.
Good luck.
