My new 2016 E400 4matic

I'm taking delivery of my 2016 E400 4matic next week...

I've had 3 E350's, from 2009-14...This will be my 4th..

The Eclass is just the most practical, reliable, and well respected car on the road... My E350's have all been tanks and handle the New England winters without issue...

Anyways, I decided to spruce it up this time and get an E400...numbers were about the same for me, about $180/month more expensive. The car is much better equipped than my current and previous models, so I'm excited...

BUT...I've never actually driven the car

Has anyone here driven/own the new E400 and can compare it to the E350's in terms of performance?

Dealer says they can get me a renntech tune that can bring HP closer to 400HP...Is it overkill? A lot of people are saying the E400 packs enough punch..I just hope it's noticeable as it's only about 30 more horses than what I'm used to!

Congrats! Def report back once you've driven it ... by the numbers, it should be a bigger kick in the pants vs your prev 350.

Color schemes? Fingers crossed on lunar blue on black. Maybe dark gray on black.

With respect to your stealer and the tune, they've got an awfully progressive attitude! If they'll back you on warranty issues, seems like a no-brainier! More is almost always better. This is America after (never mind, I think that's spillover from a diff thread).

LOL no blue...and no dark gray, although that was my second option...

ALL of my E's have been black on black...but as I said I had to spruce it up (a LITTLE )

Obsidian Black on Chestnut Brown Leather with Open Pore Brown Ash Wood trim...very classy, if I do say so myself...can't wait to drive it..

Congrats on the new ride that sounds like a great interior/exterior combination. I would love to see pictures when you get it.

I have an e400 wagon and think it's just great. Had a 2014 e 550 sedan which had terrific power but I am pleased with the 400 although it certainly doesn't feel like the 550 in that sense but certainly plenty of oomph for me. I am sure you will notice the difference coming from a 350 in a positive sense. Enjoy

2015 E400 and 2015 GLK350
I have no basis for comparison, having just moved into a new 2015 E400 4Matic from a 2001 Lexus LS430. You are obviously familiar with the W212, so the platform will be "normal" to you.

As for the power train, I find it to be faster than my V8 Lexus was, and much more responsive to drive. While the Lexus felt like a big barge with a lot of power, the E400 feels like a smaller car with good power and great torque. The fact that the E400's peak torque is reached at about 1600 RPM makes the 3.0L engine feel a lot more impressive than its displacement and HP stats would indicate.

If pure acceleration numbers help, Car and Driver did an instrumented test of the E400 4Matic last August and timed their car at 5.0 sec 0-60 MPH, with quarter mile time of 13.6 sec at 104 MPH. That puts the E400 right between the E500 and E550 in performance -- not bad for a 3.0L V6.
