Tilt steering wheel issue

Today my steering wheel adjustment for the up and down movement failed. It is stuck in the up position. The in out still works. I had the auto wheel move on exit active but now it just sits stuck. Anyone else have any issues with the tilt wheel?

About 2-3 years ago, my easy exit/entry stopped working. Took it to dealer and they replaced whatever was broken. Took them three days after the parts arrived. Biggest problem apparently was in getting the car's computer, dealer's computer and MBUSA's computer to all talk after replacement done.
Ain't technology grand?

Thanks, I'm taking it in on Monday. I hope it doesn't take as long as it took for your problem. Remember when computers were going to make life easier?

I had the same problem , took the car to the dealer , they said the up & down adjustment motor needs to be replaced , so I asked MB to fix it as a good will since my warrenty was over a few months ago , MB refused , but luckyly the problem was fixed by itself , and now I turned off the auto wheel move and left it at the down position , from time to time I check if the wheel still moves up and down and so far it works perfect.

Hope you have the same luck.

I hope I get the same miracle! If I try the adjustment it jerks up but not down. Luckily, I'm still under warantee.

This happened to my prior car too. When they took apart the steering column, it started working again - I happened to call right about the time this happened, so I was able to get the car back before parts were replaced - it was going to be a multi day affair, I think. I stopped using the feature after this.

My 2014 e350 started doing this specially when its cold out. Usually after playing with lever it will get unstuck and go up and down again. I recorded a video of it happening and I just took my car in today for service B and showed the service rep the video. They are looking into it i should be receiving a call tomorrow.

I had the same problem on a 2013 E350. Between the time I made my appointment and could take it in, the battery died - I thought since I had easy entry/exit turned on and the up/down was not working that it might have caused battery drain after turning off the engine due to the mechanism spinning to get it in position.

When I took it in the service advisor tried the up/down and confirmed it was not working. The mechanic turned back on the easy entry/exit and it worked. Then they told me that easy entry/exit had to be on for it to work - BS! But what could I do it was working now.

So after a long story, try turning off the easy entry/exit and turn it back on - maybe yours will be "fixed" like mine.

I'll try it and let you know if it works. Thanks for the tip.

MB would not have made it opitonal to engage easy exit/entry if it had to be on for tilt and telescope to work.

Post 2017 E300 steering tilting malfunction

My steering can't move up & down. Telescoping and easy entry/exit features are off and on. I brought my car to dealer service repair center. They said they will change computer board. Need to wait parts order for 4 days. I'll update my repair result after get back from service.

Since someone already necroposted on this, I'm having this same issue on my car too. Fortunately it's at a place that it's comfortable to drive, but might make selling it down the road tricky.

I just bought my 2017 E300. Tilt was not working. Dealership service adviser came out to the car and actually said this is embarrassing but if you hit the steering wheel hard from underneath straight up it will fix it. He was right it started working. It froze again today I dis what he did and it worked again. Reading posts above I think I'll take it back for proper repair

Reading all the posts about that tiny, bone white plastic piece in the steering column that goes crack by breathing on it, I long ago began forming a habit of not pushing, pulling or tugging at the wheel when entering or exiting the car. I simply don't stress the wheel at all, other than to turn it while driving.

Thankfully the new habit is just above your head to the left. I've habituated to using the overhead, over-door pull "grab handle" to pull myself out of the car. Even puts less pressure on the seams in those MB-tex seats by taking some of the weight off the seat while entering the car, too. Works a peach...

Well. Being fat is not the issue. I'm 509 165 lbs. The steering is not used to exit vehicle.

I wasn't calling anyone fat, or singling out anyone. Merely pointing out how often people use the steering wheel without knowing it. Pay attention, and you will be surprised how often you use the steering wheel to find that perfect seated position, reaching across to open the glovebox, etc.
