E550 Engine Light :l

Almost a year ago I picked up a 2010 E550 4matic with 85,000kms. Favourite car of mine byfar ❤️
-Today randomly the engine light came on 😑....first thing I checked was the gas cap, sadly no luck
- Hyatt Mercedes here in Calgary told me they won't work with my Lubrico extended warranty company.
-Now sending to to a shop called Alpine Autowerks from what I can find they specialize in German makes. And work with Lubrico
-Crossing my figures it's something simple or a least something covered my warranty lol

It might be the intake manifold, it's a very common problem on both M272 and M273 engines,
you're probably looking at around $1.1-1.8K.

should invest $10 on Bluetooth OBDII reader.

If the valves in the intake are stuck or broken -which is indeed a common problem with those engines-, these plastic valves can be replaced by metal ones without buying a new intake! Over here in Germany many owners have gone that route.

I had the intake-issue back in 2011 in my 2008 E550. I did not recognize that the car was driving abnormal until I was in a series of races with an E350 which ended up pretty strange. I could get in front of the 350 below 60mph.

After that, I selected manual mode, 4th gear and did a pull from 1.400 rpm to redline. Then I feel, that the car was seriously lacking power below 4.000 rpm. It literally came alive at that RPM! After the repair, the car pulled very smooth from idle to the limiter.

BTW: I had no check engine light!

interesting that the dealer won't work with your extended warranty company. that stinks. worth checking with the dealer or other shops you want to use before deciding on a third party warranty company.

Ok yes better safe than sorry if it makes you feel more comfortable. I asked since I had a CEL light come on a little while back but my car was stuttering during acceleration. It ended up only being a misfire which I had happen to me twice. Swapping out all 8 plugs and 3 ignition coils so far has done the trick in my case. Good luck and keep us in the loop.

Got her back today! engine light was caused by faulty coolant temperature sensor, evaporation purge value and coolant temperature sender. Cost me $386 wasn't too bad until the shop informed my that the front glass roof panel had shattered. It was dark when I dropped it off so didn't notice it 😑.. The shop said it's a common problem with the panino roofs on Mercedes. I did some researching myself and there's is a ton of people that this has happened to, but Mercedes will not recall or accept that it is a defect..😒
- now I'm waiting for the $900 piece of glass coming from Germany

Yeah that sux, I've yet to have an issue with any car that I've had pano roofing on. Depending on your deductible it might save you to go through your insurance as @thefisch just said.

Hey guys, my insurance is going to cover it under comprehensive so no fault claim for me 🙂 Plus sense it's gonna take 10 days plus to get the glass in, they are giving me a rental car.
