Slow Tire Leak - Dealer Can't Find Problem
One of my tires (left rear) is loosing air at the rate of roughly 1 psi per day. I've taken it into the dealer to have it repaired, however, after placing the rim and tire in water, they weren't able to locate a leak. I'm certain there's a leak as the built in TPMS tells me the air pressure and I've also confirmed it with with a manual air gauge. Anyone have thoughts on what this could be or how I could find the leak?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Take it somewhere that's not incompetent. It's either a simple miss on their part or a difficult to identify culptit. Either way, they're not working hard enough for you. Try a local tire shop.

Something easy for you to do is replace the air valve with a new one and make sure the valve stem is snugged down....not too tight! You can also submerge the tire in water and jack up the air pressure to at least 50 PSI and watch carefully. With that slow a leak you won't get a stream of bubbles but more like one bubble building slowly then releasing. Once you've eliminated those things it's time to remove the tire and inspect it from the inside. I'm assuming you already carefully inspected the tire with a magnifying glass from the outside. Little stuff like this drives me crazy. Good luck and let us know.

I had a similar leak. The dealer played with it for 2 hours couldn't find a leak. They decided to dismount the tire and re-mount/balance it. After they did that, the leak went away.
I was losing about 1 psi every 36 hours.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I'll try the above including having the dealer to balance and remount the tire to see if it helps. Will keep you posted.

Car dealers are not tire experts. Top brand tire dealers know about tire problems.

This happened to my wife's previous car and I took it to Townfair tire and thry said it was due to corrosion around the edge of the rim where tge rim and tire meets. They cleaned it up and remounted and it was fine from there on.

Had a small leak on 2 of my tires on another car. After they broke down the tire from rim they found out that there was a decal where the seal should be. They removed the decal that had a number on it. Leak went away. The dealer should have at least broke down the tire from the rim when they could not find the leak. Lazy dealer.

Took the car into the dealer once again earlier this week. This time I kept the car with them and borrowed a loaner (CLA 250 which I was not impressed with at all). Anyways, after about 6 hrs, the service advisor called and said that they finally found the root cause...a small nail. They removed it and subsequently fixed the hole. Hopefully, that takes care of this issue. Good news was they didn't charge me at all for the fix. Think it was their way of saying "sorry, we didn't find it the first time around." Nice gesture I thought.
