Hey Guys I'm back! Help with a few pre purchase questions...
I am thinking about getting an E550 Sedan or a E63. I like the 2104 New body style but with the 550 engine, and Pano Roof.
Should I really be liking the 550 engine? I think it has more hp than the E400.
Are there any glaring issues i should look out for when testing Pre-Owned ones?
I'm 52 yrs old now, wow how time flies...But Although I love HP, I think I would like the Automatic transmission and the more relaxing ride of the E550. However, I haven't had a chance to drive an E63 yet!
I did drive a C-63 2011, and it was way too stiff suspension for me. and too much noise intrusion..
Lastly, Is the 2014 year a good year to buy E class...?
Thanks guys ttyl!

2014 E550 4MATIC TUNED - Turbo Upgraded Stage 3
If you got $$$, and thirsty for POWA, go with E63
I test drove E63, It's not that stiff But in sports mode is really stiff.
And Stock E63 performance still above fully tuned E550, and handling is also different.

I would say to drive them all, if you can. There are differences, and depending upon how/where you drive, the differences may mean a lot or a little.
For example, you mention that the E550 has more HP than the E400. No doubt there, BUT if you drive mostly in the city, the difference may not be worthwhile. The Car and Driver instrumented tests show the E400 to be about 0.5 sec slower from 0-60 mph and about 0.5 sec slower in the 1/4 mile than the E550. For that small a difference, unless ultimate power (or bragging rights) is your goal, it may be worth considering the E400.
On the other hand, if you want raw power and the AMG badging, go for the E63. I have the E400 as a DD, and have a close relative who has an E63, and the E63 is a Beast. The E400 is a sleeper, but everybody knows when the E63 is in town.

Thanks for the info!
I was watching Chris Harris reviewing the 2010 E63 with the older body style, and i believe that engine is hand built naturally aspirated. they say the sound is really great. then i think i 2012 the different style engine came out.. which one is the better one?

I wouldn't even think about 2010 E63, I would rather go with 2012+ E550 in this case.

The E550 is awesome - I enjoy driving mine every day. I have not driven an E63 so I don't know how they compare.

Go 2012-2014 E550 with Biturbo engine for the best performance value.
New 400 has quite a bit less power (V6), Older N/A engines are less powerful and don't offer the possibilities of bumping the power significantly with an ECU tune. If you have the deep pockets to buy and maintain an AMG, then go for it, but the 550 is a great balance. More power than you can realistically use daily, and maintenance is far more reasonable than anything AMG. If you're dead set on the newer facelift body style, then I believe 2014 is your only option for the E550 sedan. All the turbo engine E550 have 4matic (AWD), which I love now that I have it. It helps a ton with the handling feel and confidence of driving the car, the only down-side is you can't do big smokey burnouts!!

I was in your same situation until yesterday. I was between the w211 E63 or the W212 e550, drove them both, ended up getting the E550. Awesome car, plenty of power and great mpg!
I will definitely tune, do exhaust and springs
