Commonalities between the M278 and M157 engines?
I'm just curious if there are shared or common parts between the bi turbo engines in the E550 and the E63. Any thoughts?

Both engines are sharing most of the parts. Iám trying to fit m157 turbos on m278 (cls500) so the exhaust manifolds are same except the M157 turbochargers feature water cooling in addition to the oil cooling. the m278 engine with some mods is currenty at 500whp but after 5000rpm turbos are out of steam..

My car currenty run 1100nm to the engine and not a single issue with the gearbox or drivetrain (special intake mod to lift the K&N airfilters, AMG 63S IC pump and additional radiator, Alpina b7 spark plugs, catless downpipe, stage 2 custom software). Mercedes is limiting the torque electronically on the lower gears. We are expecting to go ~700hp on m278 with the right setup and exhaust (the 550 series has 60mm exhaust pipe diameter compared to 70mm for the 63 AMG) including M157 turbochargers.

would love some more details on the mods as well. Like the intake mod and I'm assuming you have an E63 S IC pump and radiator. I wonder if your setup is similar to the cooling setup AMS is running for our cars

Hello, Here you can see dyno run
0-100km/h 3.8-4sec (with brand new continental 5p and light weight wheels) 100-200km/h 8.3-8.5sec (it's good for 4matic) stock 100-200 was 12.2-12.5
Also the car has splited intercooler water from the main engine water
If you need any other info let me know. The car ECU is calibrated for 100 octane EU spec fuel

^^^ You should start a build thread in here. I'm sure a lot more people than have posted already would want to know more about your mods. It would certainly detract from the mundane "why doesn't this work" or "what does this button do" question threads that are common in the W212 threads lol

When i have more time will make it. Now waiting for the M157 turbos, some parts needed for the turbo swap including bigger exhaust (70mm pipe diameter, cooling lines etc..) . When all is complete will let you know what's needed to install bigger turbos on our cars

Hi Guys,
I'am about to build the thread for all my mods here
Just receive the M157 turbochargers and all other parts needed including the 3 inch turbo-back downpipes to muffler exhaust system. Target 700-750hp from m278 engine Hope i can help others with the upgrades. P.s the other day i had track session with 530hp GTR and it doesen't feel any faster than my cls..

YES!! finally someone who is not afraid to go all out on a 550 vs being told to just buy a 63. I'm super interested in the cooling and part as well because I keep hearing that these cars suffer from heat soak after a few dyno pulls and on the track. You rock gardevski! please don't kill us for bombarding you with questions!
Should be a good thread ... Love the line about the 7gtronic stock handling the 800lb-ft LOL

Don't worry about the gearbox. The current CLS550 and E550 have 7g tronic plus. I have 63 amg s-class with m156 engine that has 1/2 the torque of my 550 and the gerbox is not much stronger. CLS550 first two shifts has torque limiter to prevent damages (even the 63 amg MCT box will not hold full torque on the first two gears of the line)
If i go for 63 it will be from the next generation cls or e63 amg. No need to buy car that will be hard to sell after the new models come in production in the next 1-2 years.

EGR VALVE?
My Mercedes c240 will not start. Check engine light came on months ago got it checked out and they said it's the EGR valve. When it shut off it said battery/alternator. When I try and start it it sounds like it wants to start but when I go to give it has nothing happens. Would EGR valve cause this? Alternator and battery seem okay. PLEASE NO RUDE COMMENTS JUST LOOKING FOR HELP 2002 Mercedes C240
