Hey guys,
for those who are servicing at dealership at higher mileages, does your SA try to upsell on stuff not listed in the maintenance manual.
Today as I was being escorted to get my loaner, my SA mumbles to me oh ya we recommend coolant flush and rear differential change, no price information or anything, I told him I would do it next time, kind of like the time at 30,000 miles when he recommended an alignment out of the blue, just because I guess
My car has 63000 miles MY2010,
Checked the book replace engine coolant 150,000 miles, seems a bit high but I'm not a MB Engineer so I'll go with it, even though I'll get rid of it way before 150000
can't find anything about replacing rear differential on an e class.
is this a common scenario for everyone?

2014 E350 also restored: 1969 Camaro convertible SS 1957 Chevy Belair 2dr hardtop
At my dealership they actually said I did not need some of the scheduled maintenance because of low mileage. Saved a couple hundred dollars. Next time tell the service rep you only want the recommended maintenance nothing extra. That should do the trick.

Hate that upsell stuff. I always go in knowing what needs to be done and am very specific with them. Have to do that when my wife takes her car in also. They seem to try to upsell her more than me on things like fuel service, alignment, etc. That's been at Honda and Toyota service centers though. Hasn't happened at the two local MB service centers... yet.

If you don't have it already, the maintenance guide can be downloaded. Shows you what's performed at each 10K interval. They tend to overlap some, i.e. oil is every 10K, brake fluid 20K, tranny 40K. Much of the rest is visual checks.
Upselling is huge, and they almost can't help themselves, even knowing I do almost all wrenching on my W212. BMW tries it with my wife each time too.

My dealer doesn't try to up sell. They have a huge sign with 3 levels for each service. Basic (same as required maintenance from the booklet), Silver (includes the recommended items from the booklet) Gold (a ton of other stuff to make them the big bucks).
The SA always just tells me to get the basic as that is sufficient to keep the car running well for many years to come. He says some folks feel better getting the silver or gold but it is absolutely not necessary.
I tried to get coolant and transmission fluid flush early one time and he advised against it. Saying to wait till the next year's maint to do those things.
