E550 4Matic Downpipe and AMG Exhaust Install

Installed Speedriven catless downpipes on my 2012 E550 along with AMG Exhaust.

My goal was to get quiet E550 Exhaust to sound better (more aggressive , louder i guess ) and gain some HP at the same time.

Sound that is makes now is almost 2X louder then 2014 E63 (i went and test drove E63 to compare the sound) , it is almost too loud for my taste but i'm starting to like it.

After the install my exhaust smell is terrible , after talking to my ECU runner sounds like i will need to update it for catless DP and Exhaust and after that it should be a better. The way it is now it gives me headache from the exhaust smell that i get driving with windows down , i'm really hoping that new tune will bring it down a bit.

Regarding performance i have not really noticed much of the difference and i think part of is that i need a new tune and part is that exhaust is so aggressive and loud i'm afraid of getting too much attentions from cops and pushing it to hard

I'd like to thank team Speedriven and Jo for getting the job well done and supporting with all my questions and concerns along the way.

Here are pictures , and i will be uploading videos soon,

Catless does smell.... I've gotten used to it. I just leave my windows rolled up. Once you get the tune, it will be night and day. I have the same down pipes, with their mufflers and tune.

You will get use to the smell pretty soon.
Some days I love the sound, but some days I just want to mute it.

Cold start is so loud that my wife can hear it inside the house.

I wonder how much of that is the tune? We didn't tune it here at Speedriven, and the other tuner supposedly wants to get the car back up on the dyno for a re-tune, if I recall correctly. Did seem to be running very rich to me.

Completed re-tune @AMS after DP and exhaust install

Today Completed AMS ECU update
It made 520 whp / 601 wtq after the re-tune...

Before DP and exhaust install car was at 458 whp / 545 wtq ,

Speedriven DP and AMG exhaust made it 510 whp and finally after the retune its at 520 whp / 601 ,

If you do the math total gain is somewhere in +60 hp and +65 tq

It does feel faster, from the start it has more noticable kick, it is no longer an ordinary E550 now

Not a big fan of going Cat less. Nobody likes the smell because its all the unburned fuel and gas. Does nobody make any High Flow cats for these cars? To take a 60K plus car and have it drive around smelling like a 72 pick up truck is silly TBH. Impressive numbers none the less.

Catless DP are something that get installed on cars 3X more expensive than our cars, like E63s and AMG GT,

Speedriven gave me an option to weld the Hi Flow Cats to my existing DP for a very reasonable price so i'm glad that i have this option if smell bothers me too much. Some people actually like it

Right now this is my Weekend Car so i'm enjoying the full effect of it, maybe i'm getting addicted to it.

I think the tune they are talking about tricks the ECU no? If not the O2's are reading crazy and it would throw a light.

This is great, as a fellow E550 owner, to see someone throwing some mods on. I love (total sleeper), and hate (come on man, this is a V8), how quiet the E550 is (exhaust and turbo wise).

I really like the idea of the AMG exhaust, and my question is, how the hell did you find one, or did you actually buy it from MB? Can you share how much you were able to get it for?

My logic being, if a shop busts ***** on it I can say it's an OEM part fitted on the car, not some aftermarket modification. Plus I think it gives the right sound (not too loud, not too soft).

Thanks for posting this all up!

Some guys who have 63s want a bit more sound, so they upgrade to an aftermarket. Option 2 is, of course, to just buy the sport mufflers we make.

I get that (we all want better sound, don't we), just wondering if there's somewhere logical to look for these things. Or if it's watch craigslist, ebay, the forums, etc. I never see them anywhere and I am pretty sure dealer pricing is prohibitive if bought new.

I was checking out the packages you guys offer, just still waffling on what to do on a car that is plenty fast already, haha.

Try posting on E63 forums, as they upgrade to more aggressive exhaust you can score the original one from them.

Thanks - any idea what model years work for a 2013 E550, which is what I have. I'm assuming whatever fits your car fits mine as well.
