A/C or Fan On 45 Minutes After Car Off

Okay, here is the situation. I drive to work very early and then when I get to my parking garage, I take an hour nap in my car in the reclined passenger seat. Keys out of the ignition and car is unlocked. Very often (possibly every time?) after about 45 minutes, the interior blower fan comes on gently and blows air. The air is very cool, so I don't know if the A/C is actually on too or if it is just residual cool air? It is about the same intensity as though the A/C were on when you car stops at a red light in ECO mode.

Also, if I have a phone plugged in, it starts charging!

Anybody know why it does this? Seems weird that it would do this 45 minutes after the car has been turned off. Also, it is a new car now, but I hate to think what it will do to the battery once it gets older.

To be clear, the keys are not in the ignition and this is in a cool underground parking garage.

Once I leave the car and lock it, I can't tell you if it keeps going or not only because it is so quiet to begin with.

I don't recall this happening in the winter, but I am not positive.

Normal. It's to keep your car from smelling like an old gym sock as the fan drys up moisture.

I thought that was the NAP feature for when the car knows it's time to wake you up with a gentle breeze.

How long does it run for after it starts? Sounds like at least 15 minutes if it comes on after 45 and you get out after an hour. You may be able to hear it from outside if you place you ear near the cabin air intake just below the passenger side wiper.

If you run into battery issues down the road, one of the supposed fixes is they disable the fan drying feature to avoid excess where on battery. Interesting that your phone charger also kicks in.

Not even joking, but after 45 minutes of napping, it is actually very nice when it comes on and clears out the air a little bit. Unfortunately I can't say how long it stays on as I always have to take off for work and can't hang around. So I only know about the 15 minutes that it is on when I am there. I'll try to be more observant when it is in my garage at home and see if I can time it better.

Sounds like you wouldn't want them to turn off that feature then. I could see how the air gets stuffy the longer you're in the car when it's off.

I've tried to see if mine comes on but haven't caught it in action. Bought mined used so it could have already been adjusted before I bought it.

Btw, since you're new, you need to post pics of your car or it didn't happen.

It can come on and run for awhile and then turn off only to come back on sometime later if it deems it necessary. I have walked into my garage a couple hours after my car has sat from a lengthy drive and I hear the fan running. I never hang around to see how long it runs. Usually, only when it is warm out (spring, summer, fall). I was not aware that the car woke up other controls as well during this period. That is odd, because there is a potential to put an unnecessary higher parasitic load on the battery as it tries to power up plugged in devices.

I had a volvo years back that also turned the fan on after a while once the car was off.It was explained in the volvo manual. One of the few things about the volvo that didn't eventually fail.

Unless you open and shut the door before you take a nap. The car knows you have not exit.
