Painting my grill black? need advice or pics?

SO I want to paint the whole grill black, but leave the chrome under the bumper and the Mercedes emblem chrome. Anyone have this done already or has seen it/has pics? Thanks in advance

repacing the grill

I think the easiest thing is to just replace the grill with a black aftermarket one- this is what I did.You can find them on e-bay and they are quite inexpensive.

Good luck.Dan

I do not remember how much I paid for - check E-Bay for what is available. In my case I had at least 4-5 choices even more. Put the original one in the box for storage where it will stay looking good 5-6 years from now when I might decide to put it back on the car. I think that a painted one is going to show silver spots under the paint after it is going to be sandblasted by driving 100mph.Who wants to do touch- ups on a grill?

Plasti dip it, won't chip at any speed and you can peel it off when you are tired of it. $7-8 a can.

This vendor is one of the main sellers on ebay. He has matte black, gloss black and gloss frame /front fins with matte mesh and matte behind fins. There is options for w/wo distronic, and w/wo chrome star.

There's also Plasti Dip Glossifier to make your plasti dip glossy if you don't like matte.

To be honest, your car looks clean already. If anything I would just paint the front grill black over the "silver part only" and leave all the grill chrome lines. And I'd say lower your car more

To help what glossifier does. My wheels are dipped black with 4 coats for semi gloss. Can do more but I like it. Haven't had time to do window chrome.

Funny you say that. H&R springs will be in within the month. The grill I just want black except for the big Mercedes emblem. Them leave all the rest chrome. DEFINTIELY NEEDS TO BE LOWERED I just haven't had the time to devote a whole day to it

Please show pic after lowering... I want to get the same thing done or at least lower it somewhat, but don't want it too low.

contemplating between new springs or new spring (thinner) spring pads.

That's my plan with the grill too although I have w204. I'm thinking of either leaving the line that goes between the emblem chrome too

Vinyl wrap will be your best choice.

I installed a black grill with a chrome one fin and felt it was missing something so I decided to paint the mesh part silver. I liked the look better but the silver began to deteriorate as time went by. Perhaps my prep could have been better, but it was sort of an experiment anyway. I removed the grill and am now working on cutting out the plastic mesh and replacing it with stainless steel wire woven mesh. This should hold up better and hopefully give me the look I am after. I'll post some pics when it's done if it turns out ok.

if you do decide to paint your grill make sure you prep it well.

Tastefully done. Just enough silver on your car to add contrast. I like it!
