How close do I have to be in order to open all windows and sunroof with my key fob. I was about 30 feet away and it did not work.
I've gotten it to work from about 10-15 feet away. It's a small spot to aim for and if it is infrared like a TV remote I would think you might be able to just it from 30 feet.

Yeah, 10 feet or so and you need to aim at the door. I usually only use that feature when I am standing next to the door and realize I am about to enter a furnace.
Thanks, I will try it again, I don't think I was aiming at the door.

it's kinda a disappointingly implemented feature on the MB. my old 2001 audi and 2004 accord would drop all window surfoof (honda would only do windows), but i never had to point it at the drivers door knob... i could do it from any position of the car in the parking lot.
why MB has the crippled functionality i don't know, it's a great feature to have, but not how it's implemented on the MB.

I assume they did it to prevent highly unlikely and rare accidents...like you put your kid into the shopping cart at the store and the kid likes to play with the keys...as you're walking away with your back turned, all of the windows could be rolling down.Originally Posted by iridium7777

I agree - other manufacturers have this set up better.
Coming from a BMW 5 series, I did not need to point the fob at all. Push once to unlock and push again and hold to open all windows and sunroof. Worked up to 50 feet or so.

I think if you have Keyless Go, you can just touch and hold the driver door sensor for the same effect, while leaving the key in your pocket. I have to look that up, but I believe that is how it works.

I did see that in the manual, but the idea is to let it air out before I get into the hot car. The BMW remote app use to have remote vent option where one can activate the fans on a timer thru your cell phone.Originally Posted by KEY08

If it only works from 10 feet out, just walk slower to the car
I find this more useful for closing up the windows/sunroof than opening. I'd love to have remote start so that the air can get blowing on my seat. Like for the seat to be cool before I get in.
And for anyone who doesn't think their ventilated seats don't do anything, come down to Florida now and drive around with the fans on for 10 minutes and then turn them off. Your back will let you know their not working pretty quick.

Ive only used this feature pretty up close. No big deal to point. Calling that crippled perhaps a tad excessive.
Gotta point the clicker towards the tv, right?

Not all clickers!
I think the Merc's key fob window down functionality is incredibly poor. Just 10'? When I do it, I have to stand outside the car and wait for it all to happen - windows down, sunshade open and then the roof opens. The only nice thing is the ventilated seats turning on with the car, but that feels like inventing a positive. I may as well just do all this from inside the car.

I wonder if the Mbrace app can remote ventilate?Quote:

I remember a time when to open a door I put a key in a keyhole, and to open a window I rolled down the hand crankOriginally Posted by The G Man

Air conditioning meant opening the vent window and good tunes meant listening to Cousin Brucie on AM

Yeah, on one of my first Z28's that was the way of the world at the time. It was much, much simpler then, haha.

Yeah, third world problems, right? Ask a straight question, get some straight answers and then still turn it into a whine fest.

BMW uses RF for the remote. MB for some reason decided to use IR for this particular feature but RF to lock/unlock.Originally Posted by The G Man

On older MB's they had IR sensors on both driver and passenger door handles. To cut costs, the newer models only have the IR sensor on the driver door handle, so you'll need to aim the remote at the drivers door for it to work.

I've gotten it to work about 50ft away from my E350 with a fresh battery in the remote and the remote pointed directly (in the direction) of the drivers door handle where the IR sensor is.Originally Posted by thefisch

On my old 2001 C230k it had IR sensors on both door handles so I could do this on either side of the car from 50 to 100 ft away.

So if I am approaching my car from the rear, like I usually do, I am out of luck Originally Posted by thenew3

If you're approaching from the rear, move towards the drivers side door a bit and it should work as the sensor (at least on my car) is on the driver door handle facing towards the rear of the car. Originally Posted by The G Man

If you're approaching from the front.... then you're out of luck unless you can some how get the IR signal to bounce off a car parked next to your car (which in theory can happen but is tricky).

If I move toward the driver's door, I might as well just open the door and let it vent out, that way, I don't need to pull the keys out of my pocket at all
The problems we have to deal with driving these luxury German sport sedans, its not easy

there used to be a company called AlienTech that had a product for VWs.
The circuit piggy backed onto the alarm and window circuits.
Special combination of key presses and you could open / close / vent, etc.

I'd LOVE it if someone could bring this functionality to my car.

This looks interesting, 2016 models can have the MBrace remote start the vehicle and pre-condition the interior by turning on the climate control:
