Comand Screen Haze - can't see screen when in direct sunlight

Hi All,

My 2013 E550 has this 'haze' over about 2/3 the screen where the screen looks fine in normal/low light but when the sun is beaming on it, you can't actually see what is on the screen in the area impacted due to the haze.

The dealer is telling me that they won't cover it under warranty (it's CPO) and that this is normal wear and tear. I'm trying to figure out how this would happen because it isn't a touch screen as far as I know so why would someone be touching the screen in such a manner to make this possible.

Do these things delaminate over time or something? My wife's 2014 GLK has no such issue.

Any help would be great!
Brian

could it be some kind of residue from a past cleaning? Sometimes after taking it to a wash place, I've noticed more glare in certain spots that I've had to wipe off to remove.

I am guessing the last owner try to clean the screen with the wrong cleaner and remove the anti glare coating.

Yeah, something is amiss there. The M-B COMMAND screen is one of the best in the business in terms of being clearly view-able under any light conditions.

Have you tried changing the brightness of the screen? Maybe it's just too low? :B

I did some further homework, and I think this is it. Wrong cleaner, either by the prior owner or the dealer. Pictures I saw looked like what I saw in these threads where they used a bad cleaner.

There are some solutions, I guess, from cheap (DIY stuff removing screen and then overlaying something) to having the dealer replace it (no idea how much it costs, but can't be cheap).

Sorry about that. Can you post some pics or links so the rest of us can watch out for it?

There is no easy fix for this that I am aware of. Sorry.

Seems like the cheap fix worked for those folks. Are you going to try it?

Maybe, it's not quite annoying enough for me to go gung-ho and fix it now. In the month or so I have had the E550 it only has happened twice where I could not see it.

I have seen people remove the anti glare coating all together and place a anti glare film on the screen with good result.
