I am parting ways with my w212 Friday
Well I have bought a 2002 SLK 320 to be my daily driver until I get my Tesla Model 3 (who knows when).
Looks like I am going to sell it to Carmax this Friday.
I have to come out of pocket to cover the difference between what I owe and their offer.
I am sure that the airbag recall is partly responsible for the lower offer. Their offer is 17k for it.
I paid about $25k for it in October 2014 with 34k miles on it. It has 57k miles on it now. Since I owned it I put on new tires, new battery, new seat cover, new seat heater element, tranny fluid filter change, air filters, oil changes, new thermostat, akebono brake pads front and back. I am a tad bit disappointed by the 17k offer for it. I tried to get an appraisal from a few mercedes dealers only to be turned away because of the airbag recall on it as parts are probably not going to be available for a year. Ironically MBUSA insists it is safe to drive just not safe to sell.
I love my SLK it is a fun drive. My other cars that I have access to are 2003 BMW e46 (daughters), 2016 Acura ILX (wifes), 2001 Porsche Boxster (mine). The Boxster is a manual and is not much fun in daily stop and go traffic to work. I do prefer the retractable hard top over the soft top of the boxster. The Boxster though has way more storage space vs the slk. You can't go grocery shopping in the SLK unless you are solo driving. The boxster has the luxury of the frunk + trunk storage spaces.
I am not sure if I am going to miss it or not. It is a smooth comfortable ride for sure, but 95% of the time I am driving solo, so it is a bit overkill to drive around the w212 everywhere.

Craigslist people are usually a hassle. They say they will come and don't. I have a loan on it and I know Carmax will pay it off quickly. I suppose if someone local would want it and was a serious buyer I could sell it to them.

I hear ya man. Try carguru.com. They are free. I sold my truck and my mini within a week. Carmax wanted to give me $7K for my Mini and I got $12.5K. Just a thought. A lot better than craiglist.

Agree on carguru. Sold my 2001 e class with 48000 miles for $7. Carmax offered 2800.

Thanks, I posted it on cargurus.com this morning before work.
So far no response.
I need to take more pictures of it I think. I didn't have time this morning.

Yeah man, Take a pic of the Odometer with the ins. panel lit up, etc. I just would hate for you to settle for a cheap price for your car. Heck put it on here with pics for sale.

Hey bro. Went to the link. It says posting no longer available. You should also post a thread in the forum "for sale" and give your city along with pics. U never know bro.

I've seen that sometimes with online photo submission - they request a unique photo so that they can see that you actually possess the item and that it is not some photos you grabbed online from another listing to mislead buyers. Never heard of using a shoe though...

I have sold plenty of cars on craigslist that were cheap and the buyers could easily pay in cash. In this case I don't have the title nor the funds to pay it off.

Guys, his issue is that he does not have a title in hand, so very difficult to get someone to trust and go through the hassle of handing over cash to pay off his loan before they can get the title. Also private sales over 10-15K are very difficult, because people rarely have cash to pay for anything that expensive, or know how to work with credit unions to make it happen. People who have that kind of cash aren't typically used car buyers anyway.
The thing is... how much short do you have to make up in cash payout? How many payments would that make? Maybe by the time you make the payments for 6-12 more months, the value will be in line with what you owe. Therefore you would have got another year of using the car for the same amount of cash you are parting with now to stop the payments???

Now it is true the OP will have to make up the difference between what he gets and what he owes but that happens often also

People sell cars that have notes on them all the time. You just go to the financial institution that holds title and pay them and they will tranfer the title to the buyer. Then they go to their state licensing agency to get the new title in their name.
