Speakers Melting
Now since my car has low mileage, it's still under warranty.
The real problem is it's just a perfect 82 degree cool day. However, the dark brown interior and the sealed cabin heated it up to 100+. I can't imaging I need to open the window every day to avoid this issue. It's just 82 degrees outside in Pennsylvania. What about people in AZ or CA? It should be a re-call issue!

Not only that, but we was very lucky! The next day, my dad took the car for a wash and it started to smoke up a lot from the door and smelled awful. It was a huge amount of smoke coming out of the speaker. We have a little over 40k miles, so this is just unbelievable that this happened. Is this a defect? Our car is 2 months out of warranty unfortunately.
Crazy though that you also had a 2014 E350 with this problem. Otherwise, our car is just fine and we only had normal stuff happen like a battery change and damage tires from debris on the road. We plan on selling this car for good after it gets fixed, we just do not trust it anymore for travels.

Every member experiencing this should request dealer file an “Information Only PTSS case” to be reviewed by MB confirmed on invoice with each speaker replacement repair. This is the absolutely the only way MB will take notice https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post7229005

I am about to go pick it up. So, should I tell them to report this issue as "Information Only PTSS case" when I get there?
Did this happen to your CLS that you have pictured, or was it a E-class??

Since there was no smell and the sound only occurred when comand was on, I assume this is a HK amp issue with wiring or capacitors, not a speaker melting issue. Although I hope it doesn't come to that. Did anyone have this happen to them before the speakers melting?

1) they started melting before making any noise
2) even did so with the stereo turned off (and car off for that matter)
3) all problems happened independently over different days/weeks
4) only 3 speakers failed, we have 14 speakers
5) 100% on very hot days
6) they know of other speakers failing in a similar fashion (including another member of this forum, also in Texas)
7) MB covered this without even talking to me for more details (service writers didn't take much info from me) which tells me they already know...or there's even an internal bulletin about it
8) they replaced at least one that did not exhibit problems yet, leading me to think they have batch numbers to replace before it melts too
All of this makes my assumption that the adhesives holding the cones together became very liquid...which after several minutes of a fire smell, resulted in loud shorting/popping noises.
My ultimate guess is a bad batch of adhesive at Harman...or adhesives that cannot hold up to 100+F interior temperatures for extended periods of time...but I can't really tell you.
When I removed the door panel on the rear passenger during a meltdown you could literally see the center cone melting.
$5400, damn, that's gotta be half the value of the car!
Sorry about the previous posts, but your issue seems a little less severe than mine.
