FYI: Split-folding rear seats is not a standard option.

If you have folding rear seats, there would be two handles in the trunk that would release the seats to fold down. There's also a split in the middle of the back seat when looking in the trunk. It's option code 287 if you put your vin through a vin decoder. Not very common, many cars don't have it.

Luckily, my car came with this. Didn't realize it was an option when I bought it. I just assumed they all came with the folding rear seats. Don't know what I would do without it. I can get a 2x4x10 in the car and still close the trunk.

I'm not sure what they did on the W212, but MB tends to over engineer things. On the W211, the rear seats also fold up so you get a flatter storage area instead of the seats just folding down, then the seats also move up so there's room for the seats to fold up. It's not just a simple fold down option although that would have been fine to have as a standard feature instead of making it an option.

You should see the price of a door handle if the keyless go feature fails.

Probably an option as many people don't need it. I have a pick-up and an SUV, so folding seats in my Benz not necessary.
Several years ago I had a Ford Taurus and was at Lowe's. Older couple was trying to fit a couple of boards in through the rear windows in parking lot. I asked why didn't they just fold down the rear seats. They had no idea they could do that.
Will say that American and Asian cars are much more sensible about how to do it.

I don't have it and find it absurd. There isn't even a pass through. Having to bring skis inside the car or buy a roof rack seems like a poor excuse for an all wheel drive mid/large sized sedan. It was my biggest disappointment with the car when I discovered that. (I spend a good portion of my year in a ski resort town).

Many people don't use the folding seats. Perhaps MB figures if you want it you would pay for it.

I have had folding seats on cars for the last 20 plus years and doubt its used more than 4 times a year.
