Angry Dealer Did Not Add Coolant

So a couple of days ago I took my car into a MB dealer to get a coolant exchange and break fluid exchange. No biggie. My car is a 2011 E350 with roughly 48,000 miles. I drove the car home and no issues. The next day on my way to work while I was on the freeway the car suddenly had a low coolant level warning and very soon after that ( maybe a minute later) the trip computer turned red and told me to turn the engine off. The temp went up to 120 C. I quickly turned the car off and called the dealer. They sent a tow truck and took a look at the car. I got a rental and went to work.

They called me stating that they forgot to add a gasket and the coolant had been leaking out. They said they replaced the coolant and there are no other issues.

I am really worried about long term damage and negative effects. What should I do?

since you turned it off immediately nothing bad happened

this is documented and you can rail this dealership if anything happens to your engine that can be linked to this in the future

ask for something like a free B service or something or a warranty extension (ask Mbusa)

The car was driven roughly 50 miles after the service was performed. The car did run for a few minutes and did hit highest temperature point. So there very well could have been no coolant in the car once it reached highest temperature.

I do not care for a free service but really want a warranty on parts that could be affected (cylinder heads, head gasket, water pump, thermostat)

The title of this thread says the dealer didn't add coolant - yet the dealer admitted they left out a gasket, which caused coolant loss. Anyway, you should talk to MBUSA and see what they can do for you. They have leverage with the dealership (it should cost the dealer, not MBUSA).

I took my Nissan in for service and they forgot to top off the oil and coolant. Not real low, but since I don't have either I called to complain. Next service was free because I had to go back to get them topped off.

@ fosterelli I apologize. I should have had a better title.

I went in and picked the car up today. The service department was really kind and apologetic. The problem was the lower coolant hoes had come off. They offered my next service for free and I quote

"The vehicle has warranty for the next 6 months if related to any overheating or damage to engine due to the coolant leak"

I guess that is enough and pray I do not have to deal with anything negative because of the error.

I hate when lower hoes come off!

So they forgot a clamp, not a gasket I guess?

Glad it worked out okay for you man, put some miles on her before that six months is up - that should give you some peace of mind. And make sure that's in writing in case there are personnel changes (or selective memory loss).
