Parking Sensor Acting up and check coolant indicator light
Good Morning,
Has anyone had there parking sensors act finicky? Mine on my front drivre side is going off and there's nothing blocking the sensors when i'm in a parkade/parking etc. Also, when i start up the car, the "check coolant level, refer to operators manual" pops up. Its a 2012 E550 sedan, anyone else have a similar problem and how did they resolve it? Thanks.

Just saw the thread below with someone having a similar problem. I too live somewhere where the outside temp is blistering cold. I'm assuming that thats the reason. But other than knowing what coolant is in it. Should i just buy some off the shelf to top it off? Or is there a specific kind to buy?

You could have a bad sensor, have the car scanned to check for codes, it might tell you which one has the bad sensor. Or just put up with it, mine only acts up when there's rain or snow on the sensors, maybe try cleaning the front bumper?

I just had the car washed and its spotless on the bumper, I'm going to assume its a bad sensor. I'll be picking up that coolant. Thanks for the tip. But im guessing with the parking sensor I'm going to have to take it in. I've been putting up with it as of now by just turning the parking sensor off. I just hope it doesn't cost me my future born child.

I think there have been threads in the past where people just replace a bad sensor. Getting it scanned tells you which sensor it is. You could pick up a cheap scanner like the Launch X431 Easy Diag, it pulls MB codes, but I'm not sure if it would tell you which sensor or just that you have a bad sensor. It might though, on my car now it actually gave me the code for a bad temperature sensor on the passenger side footwell. They're about $50-$60 on eBay/AliExpress as long as you get the Plus version which comes with a code for software for 2 specific vehicle manufacturers, otherwise the cheaper one is just a basic OBDII scanner. I don't think the sensors are that much money, probably taking apart the bumper to replace the sensor is probably the biggest expense.

they are from 20 to 80 bucks on ebay so nothing bad.
hardest part is to remove the bumper , but id say it also depends which sensor , if its on the side maybe you could just move the wheel well liner and replace , oh well.
need to find out which sensor and go from there.

I've used antifreeze as a filler when buying parts at Advance Auto Parts. They usually have either a 30% off code or a $40 of a $100 purchase that you can find on retailmenot.com. It's about $19 for a pure gallon or $13 for a 50/50 mix.

I'm sure it's a bad sensor. That's what happens when they go bad. I think I paid $250 to have one replaced. They have to paint it also to match as they don't come painted.

Sure. Sounds like it's just a glitch. When it happens all of the time or turns itself off, then you have a bad sensor more than likely. Snow/ice is also a big problem with these things giving false readings. I've had 3 cars with Parktronic and have seen it all.

Mine do that too once in a while. Cleaning off the bumpers/sensors seems to help a little. I think when they really go bad, they should have a MB specific code which tells you which sensor is bad. If the MB dealer isn't finding a bad sensor, then it's just a normal glitch that happens once in a while.

Yes, they can pinpoint the exact sensor that is faulty through the harness. Changing them out involves removing the bumper in most cases, so it's not a cheap repair unfortunately.
