Door handle trim pulled off

I purchased my CPO 2014 E350 about a week ago. It was a low mileage vehicle in incredible condition. Today, I attempted to open the passenger rear door and the chrome piece on the top of the door handle fell off. I emailed the photos to the Service Advisor and they are ordering the parts and I have an appointment Wednesday morning. I was surprised to see the piece is hollow- I thought it was a cover over the handle.

Do you have the chrome handles? I think that was just a clip on option, if they're body color, they're regular handles. You can buy the chrome handles on ebay.

The same exact thing is happening to me on the passenger side rear door. The whole piece has not come out only the front bracket, i snap it into place and and it comes out again after a few weeks or so. I dont want to waste my time going into service for this so ill just fix it myself. I might just glue it into place.

There are two mounting brackets which have/had small screws holding it in place. It is definitely not the covers from eBay which apply with double-sided tape.

Hey what does the underside of the chrome piece look like? Just curious. One thing I hate about my car is the chrome door handles, so I'd be interested to know if it's broken, or can actually just pop out and be replaced with body-color pieces. That would be ideal... but I suspect that is not the case lol

...thats what im trying to do , to wrap them. But never wanted to take out the whole handle , hoping there is a better way to find out if that chrome piece is removable and can be installed back on

definitely not an option but all W212s came with the chrome top door handle and ebay ones are different as OP mentioned.

you can either paint it, dip it or wrap it. i wrapped mine.

OP, im more curious about the shallow door handle itself. seeing youve got the square indent on the handle means youve got keyless entry/go. can you see any mechanism or sensors behind the square indent? cheers!

double sided tape are the ones from ebay. cheap knock offs. what i did was, buy those cheap knock offs () from ebay just to trace the shape on the vinyl then laid it out nice and easy like you would a normal peel-on-sticker. didnt have to remove the chrome part at all. at least thats what i did.

ive seen others on youtube wrapping the door handle directly then cutting it to shape. im not on the skill level yet.

Glad to hear MB is taking car of this.

Not all, as mine does not have the chrome top handles (USA spec). I think for USA spec, chrome top door handle is indicative of the Keyless-GO option. Maybe the chrome top handles came on all W212s down unda, regardless of Keyless-GO?

Mine has keyless go and doesn't have the chrome handle inserts. It was option code 70 and a $90 option for my 2011. Mine are just body color.

^ Right... an option on USA spec W212s, sounds like it comes on all W212s down unda. Didn't know you could get Keyless-GO without the chome-top handles though, as I don't care for the chrome-top look. Noted.

Wow...i didnt realize that something as small as that was an option. I dont even pay too much attention to it as i thought it was standard. Ill try to see other 212s on the road down here.

I would definitely prefer to not have the chrome trim, but it is not that noticeable on the Iridium Silver. If they had to put chrome- I would have preferred to have the solid door handle with the chrome trim piece on top.

Maybe it was an option in 2010-11 but standard in 12-13? My spec sheet doesn't list option 70 (nor 070, since they like 3 digits), or anything related to chrome handles. All the 12-13s I've seen have the chrome, and I don't think I've seen any 10-11s with it. My 11 had body colored handles as well.

The dealership ordered the part Monday and it's still not in. They said maybe tomorrow. 4 days to get a door handle? Told them it needs to be fixed before the holidays. Nothing like having friends and family looking at your German Luxury Car and explaining how the door handles fall off.

Well...The part is not in (5 days) and they are telling me next week. I told them I want the aluminum rear lock pins installed for to the inconvenience.

I received a call from the dealership at 5:02 asking if I wanted to schedule service for Tuesday 12-27. I spoke to the receptionist and was advised Service closed at 5:00 and everyone was gone. She transferred me to parts and they told me the part came in 11:00 by FedEx. The service adviser said everyone knew about the situation and they would advise as soon as the part arrived so they could possibly fix it today. Well, they will definitely be installing my rear lock pins for free.

It is finally fixed. They installed my rear stainless door lock pins for me too. They also noticed the molding on the passenger side trunk strut needed to be replaced due to the clips not securing tightly. I hadn't noticed it so I appreciated them going over the car. They also mentioned scratches on the aluminum trim pieces on the center console and it sounds like they are going to replace them.

Have the same issue with my 2014 E350. Curious if there was any resolution, link to a replacement part, and how to replace? Thank you!

We had the same issue, and couldn’t find only the chrome section anywhere.

We ended up buying a used handle from EBay, and transplanted the chrome section to our pull handle.
