2010 E350 Sunroof ???

I have a 4 door sedan e350 base and i have a regular sunroof and want to switch to panoramic sunroof. I know someone selling theirs and according to the charts it fits my sedan. Would anything need to be cut or is this a hard job? Is that possible?

The panoroof is a major part of the roof. It is not a simple installation like a lip on the back trunk. Major cutting is involved and is not something someone without extensive bodywork knowledge should tackle. Not to mention all the work that would need to be done to the headliner etc.

No offense intended, but if you don't know that things would need to be cut and that it's not an easy task, you should definitely avoid this.

There are no charts that say it fits, because it doesn't. Is it the same pano roof that would've come with your vehicle had it been optioned that way? Probably yes. But that doesn't make it fit. It can only fit if your vehicle was manufactured for a pano roof. But it wasn't.

So it won't fit, unless you get a pano headliner and cut your roof and somehow manage to do all of the extensive bodywork required for fit, finish, and sealing.

I'd say while I understand you'd like the pano roof vs. the standard roof, you should avoid this nightmare and (1) live with your roof or (2) buy a different vehicle with the pano roof option.

Now, if you decide to tackle this, you must update us with pictures and comments along the way, because it would be interesting.

I think you would be the first to ever try this conversion. There is enough cracking and popping with the factory Panorama roof, and I cannot imagine how bad a DIY job would be on that situation. You realize that every dollar you spend on this mod will reduce the value of the car, right? Probably by a factor of 2-1.

Would not mess with it.. too much money , time , nerves , and patience.
easier off buying one with Pano already or just keep it like this to save yourself from all the issues

You should ask Chris the Swede - if it can be done he can do it. I vote no like the others. This isn't like adding t-tops to a camaro.

I think it's been done before on the W211. I think that guy was a body shop guy so he knew what he was doing. Otherwise just look for one that has option code 413 instead of 414 which is the standard sunroof. It's actually worse on the W212, makes lots of popping noises when you go over certain bumps and you end up flexing the body. Basically the headliner needs to be taken down and the bolts tightened. I don't think it's a mod worth doing. There's no real added value to a car with a pano roof vs non pano roof although the pano roof probably sells easier. That's why it's nice to just find one that's loaded to begin with and pay about the same money as one that isn't.

Get a newer car with a pano if that important. However, I (and others) do not like the pano roofs. There is no insulation between the glass and the car as with a regular sunroof. Instead there is a very thin sheet of fabric. This is necessary because the cover on a pano has to roll up (like a window shade) instead of slide back. This would be another problem installing the shade winding device.
Is it really that important that your rear seat passengers be able to see the sun or moon?

No insulation isn't really a problem, that's what duel climate control is for. I leave my shade open mostly so you can see out, but hardly ever actually open it. It can be somewhat pointless, but then so are the headlamp washers, it's a luxury car, mind as well enjoy as much of it as you can. While I find the noise annoying sometime, I'm still glad that I have it vs not, but as others said, they specifically avoid the pano due to the noise problem. Your best bet is to suffer for another year or two and then trade it on a 2012+ with the pano, that gets you the newer 302hp engine instead of the 268hp in the 2010. I'd be afraid to buy a car that someone hacked a pano roof onto, I like to avoid cars with mods, you never know what other crazy things they may have done without mentioning it.

Not an AC issue

It is not an AC issue as such when car is running; it is a problem when car is parked in hot sun for hours. Glass transmits heat no matter how dark it is or how "insulated" it is made. In fact, dark glass absorbs and transmits heat.
It takes a long time for AC running full blast to cool it down compared to vehicles with standard sunroofs and insulating panels.

I think it matters more if you're in Texas or Florida. In the northeast, I leave the shade open all the time even in the summer when it's 90+, AC does a decent job of cooling it down relatively quickly and if it's too hot inside, I just open the doors for a couple seconds and it cools down pretty quickly.

I like the look at the pano, especially on a white car. When open, the bigger panel looks better IMO than the regular sunroof. But I find the shade too thin in the MB - you can track the sun and see shadows through it. Makes it feel more 'open' if that makes sense. Maybe that the point. My folks have a Hyundai with a pano and that shade is thicker and gives a normal enclosed feeling when closed.
