Arrow What is a good site to get replacement Wooden inlays?

Like many of us have faced. the Wood grain interior has faded badly. I am not even going to waste my breath with MB since my vehicle is out of warranty. So does anyone have a site ( maybe even eBay?) of where i can buy replacement wooden inlay panels? after reading what others were quoted by MB, ill buy elsewhere. thanks everyone 👍

Don Nguyen on this forum apparently makes house calls to wrap interior pieces... you should hit him up.

The wood on mine was replaced by the original owner I think the same year I got it which was 2014. It's already starting to fade a bit again. From previous discussions here, I thought that the replacements would not fade, but that might not be the case. In any event, it was very expensive to do, dealer was charging over 2k if warranty didn't cover it. But I don't think the panels are that hard to remove, just secured with clips.

And it really is wood, probably a very thin veneer that they somehow manage to get to overlay on the plastic.

West coast somewhere... didn't realize you were in VA (based on your previous thread about picking up your wagon). Still, maybe you can ship them to him or work something out somehow

The best price is going to be on eBay. There's still several kits on there with broken clips, around $200-225. I did pick up a set and some of it is lightly faded, still way better than mine though. I'm not too worried about the broken clips, they're in pretty tight and you can just use double sided tape if needed to hold the area with broken clips in.

If you want OEM, it's going to be about $1947 plus shipping for the whole kit. You should always double check the part is correct before ordering by giving the vendor your VIN.

If you do a search, you can find people who got the wood refinished. The trick is really finding someone who can do it, some people were quoted $300 to refinish it, that doesn't include installing it.

If anybody has a old piece of the faded trim, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on it to play with removing the finish and seeing what I can do with it. I've been doing woodworking going on for 40 years by now, so its not out of the realm of possibility that it may be able to be redone with a new, less glossy finish. I'd even pay for the shipping if somebody has some they want to part with.

Had someone in my car the other week ask if my wood was faded and my response was 'of course it's faded - it's real wood not like the plastic wood in your car'.

It's a very thin veneer though, and the reason it faded is that the proper UV agents weren't applied. The wood in my 2008 looks fine.

damn it, i wouldn't have ever noticed that my dash trim was faded until i read this thread. i looked at my rear door trim and its much darker, and nicer. Does the warranty cover this? or are they resistant?

The original factory warranty covers it, but not the extended or CPO warranty. But you can give it a shot if you just got the car. Most other 3rd party warranties exclude cosmetic coverage but you won't know til you try.

Yeah, I know but that takes longer to explain to folks. I used to share that but I got a lot of blank stares.

If you aren't local to me in Orange County / California, then I can still ship you the same material that I use to wrap interiors and cars with for you to DIY the wrap job yourself.

Here's a link to another member's car that I recently did the interior on during one of my trips up to norcal to do wraps up there:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post7013892

And here is a link to the same materials that I use on his interior that I have available for this who want to DIY:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-shipping.html

I have had non-locals ship me their interior pieces to be wrapped as well. So I have quite a few options available out there to try and accommodate whatever works best for you guys.

Too bad you aren't closer to New Jersey, because I actually may end up making a trip out to NJ in a few months to do wraps there.
