Thinking of selling Speedriven catted downpipes and catback

Hi Everyone,

In September 2016 I installed the Speedriven catted downpipes and catback. These were purchased brand new from the team there and professionally installed by a hi-po shop in NH. This is a full 3 inch SS setup.

The install was pretty straightforward with only a few minor nuances which were documented on the forum and I also did before and after dyno's. In ECO mode (keep in mind in this setting you don't get full WOT among other things; shop didn't know non-AMG cars had dyno mode) I picked up 25whp everywhere in the power band. It provided a noticeable punch at WOT even in eco and you can also hear the turbos a bit better now This is pure speculation but I would bet in sport or dyno mode there is even more power to be had.

This exhaust, if I sell it, should fit all 2012-2014 E550 4matic sedans. Maybe one or the other fits the coupe or vert, I don't really know. May fit AMG sedans as well with a few hanger tweaks.

Why am I selling it? Well, it's TOTALLY obvious this is an aftermarket exhaust. I have 3 years of CPO warranty, and I am almost certain my ***** will be busted by my local dealer, even though they know the car and like me. It's LOUD on cold start and I feel bad for my neighbors. It's not intrusive into the cabin but you definitely hear it and I have a young family. Candidly my 3 year old loves it and my wife doesn't mind it.

So, I took another approach and bought a the E63 AMG exhaust system (catted downpipes and catback) off of the same vintage car. I expect that this will generate little to no excitement with the dealer and also that it may be a touch quieter.

What may drive whether I sell these or the AMG stuff are what they are worth. I know I will lose money, that's ok, but what is a fair price for an almost new $5000 exhaust?

Thanks,
Brian

Also interested in the DPs... but also would entertain the catback as well.

Yes - I am for sure at this stage. Just booked the appointment for the swap next week. I'll get it fully documented and also probably take some pics and vids of the current exhaust before taking it off.

A little off topic but what did the used E63 exhaust cost you?

For the catted downpipes, catback, tips, valence and all hangars and shipping (not cheap) I am up to $2100 for the parts. There will be some fabricating of hangars and brackets to make it fit so there will be that as well. My guess is a couple hours at 100 bucks an hour. Labors a wash, you pay that for any swap. So my guess is it will come in 50% less than an aftermarket one, but I expect it to make a bit less power and it shouldn't be as loud. It took me 6 months to find a catback at the price I wanted and I NEVER see the downpipes. I lucked into those.

Wow. Thanks for all the details. I think I'll just do the resonator delete with the straight pipes and leave it at that as long as there truly is no drone. Good luck with your mod. Post up a video of the final result, it would be interesting to hear what it sounds like.

Keep in mind, if I sold off the E63 valence & AMG tips I could have recovered $300-400, maybe more. They didn't want to separate them from the exhaust so I bit the bullet and will probably use them just to be a bit different.

No - they are still on the car. Haven't tried hard to sell. Getting plenty of interest via PM. But want to get them off before I try to sell and get pics.

So I have the AMG exhaust installed and have the Speedriven stuff off - just need to clean it up.

While I will document a full thread on it eventually, I am actually really happy with the AMG exhaust. It's got a meaner tone at idle and isn't quite as loud both inside and outside the vehicle. I'm happy with it after less than a day

No dyno numbers yet - but will get those once I can make a trip back to the shop that did the work.

Willing to separate. Won't sell before I go through them and clean them, detail any imperfections, etc. That said, if mating to factory exhaust you need to adapt them to it since they are a larger diameter.
