Free MB wiper blades
I know not everyone if a fan of the MB OEM wiper blade. But how much can it hurt if they are free.

Saw this on slickdeals and then also noticed the forum announcement at the top. Posting this thread so it can get a little more notice. Got the email within moments of submitting. Haven't gone to dealer yet, but I will give it a shot this week.

Generally no. Wipers are part of recommended maintenance, not required. PPM only covers required. My two local dealers did not replace the wipers blades for free as part of PPM. IIRC some have posters other dealers doing it at no charge. I would think that's a big YMMV.

So in my example today, they are offering "A Pothole Inspection" for free up until 5/31/2017. This is just checking alignment, wheels, and tires. So that should cover me for being in there and getting the free wipers. I'd double check with the service department by phone just to make sure. Hope that helps.

At the dealership I go to, the multi point inspection is free, but they seem to come up with a few thousand worth of recommended service. So I guess you could go, get the free wipers and inspection and just leave. I suppose if I need a free breakfast/lunch or rental I could do it, but I was just there a few weeks ago. They claim their rental is complimentary, I wonder if you still get it if you don't pay anything.

Yeah, this deal is only worth between $8 to $60. I got a couple pairs from Rockauto last year on clearance, they were about $2.27 each, but after shipping charges, about $8 a pair. I think Bosch is around $22-$32 a pair but the dealer is probably more like $60 for a pair.

I tried asking my dealer about this. I have a 2014 E350, and they flat out refused it, saying it was only for 2010-2013. So, it looks like a money-making gimmick, with the dealer inspecting older vehicles and finding more issues to make them more money!

EDIT: Just realized that April 1st is just over 2 weeks away. Got an appointment for this Thursday mid-morning. Hopefully they won't have run out of donuts and cookies by then.

Thanks for this reference! I ended up ordering 2 from Rockauto. With shipping, the cost was $9.91. Just put them on and they fit perfectly! Hopefully, they function well in the rains as well.

No free lunches - or breakfasts either
Neither MBUSA nor your dealer makes money by giving things away for free.
It is a gimmick to get you in so they can inspect the vehicle and sell you some services. Or at least make you worry that you should have bought the service and then get it next time you come in.
On the other hand, if you are willing to go along, you get a free set of wipers.
Comparison: I get an "A" service from my dealer for $200, but I get a loaner because they keep it several hours. I get "A" service equivalent on my Nissan from Nissan dealer for $50, but no loaner. But they are through in one hour. Both include same type inspections and tire rotations. The Nissan dealer is much more likely to try and sell me something extra though.
So, how much did I pay for the loaner?
Incidentally, dealer does not provide a loaner for something I get for "free" from them or MBUSA.

Stopped by the dealer this morning for the inspection and wiper blades. No issues were found and they had the car washed and ready to go in about 40 minutes. That gave me time to test drive the E300 and grab some of their snacks (there was one blueberry donut left). Afterwards they help me troubleshoot a phone connection issue I've been having. So after all that I didn't mind stopping by.
New ones have the MB logo and wear indicator. My old ones didn't - I guess they weren't OEM although they appear to have a MB part number on them and are stamped made in Belgium. The connector on the new ones is a rectangle shape where the tab rests over the top of it whereas my old one had a curved upper edge that encompassed the tab that secures the upper side.
They gave me the old wipers back at my request. I like to keep spares in the trunk just in case one gets torn or fails somehow.

Thank for the information. I got the code and looking to schedule an appointment. Are all dealers honoring this or should I start calling around. Anyone done this in the NYC area yet? I see silver star, nanuet, ray catena, princeton and flemington offering complimentary inspection and thinking of one of these dealer to take it too.

It was only a short one. I mainly focused on how it drove and not the tech as it wasn't loaded with options. I thought it was a decent replacement for the V6. Not as smooth and quiet as you'd expect. I found the 9 speed to jump around more than I care for but that could have been the sport setting. The tranny does do a good job keeping the rpm is the sweet spot under steady acceleration. I did not feel underpowered IMO.
Today, I went to another dealer with a colleague who was ready to buy a 2017. They had an E300 loaded with P3, HUD display, distronic, 360 parking, driver and passenger, dynamic seats etc. It did not have the dual 12 inch displays though. He thought the car performed comparably to his E350 he was replacing. I went through the product specialist demo with him and it was neat to see all the tech although I couldn't help thinking that the GPS still sucks despite the glorious 12 inch display. Although the look and feel is light years ahead of my 2011.
I called to make the appointment just to make sure my local dealer was aware pf the promotion and they were. Better to check just to be sure but I haven't heard of any getting turned down unless their vehicle did not qualify.

I have an appointment this Monday 3/27 at Silver Star, they have a special on 27 point inspection and they say they will also honor the wiper code. One week left to do this, good timing too as my wipers are bad.
