Entering a destination and garage door opener

So my first few question about my E550 are as follows:

In Navagation when I go to Destination and click Address Entry I enter the State first, then the City, then the Street and last the Number, I skip the zip code and all the other stuff and click Save and select Save without Name it says "Data Saved" and brings me back to the entry screen with Cont./Save/POI/or Map as the options. If I hit continue it brings up the map and starts Route Guidance.

Basically my question is, is there a way to just enter addresses without the route guidance staring at the end of each entry?

My second question is about the garage door opener buttons on the rear view mirror. I believe I have everything programmed correctly because when I press the button the garage door opens and closes fine, but I noticed I cannot do it unless the car is on (accessory) position or running. The only time this would be a problem for me is if I get into the car when it is in the garage and try to open the door before I start my car. 99% of the time I press the button on my wall to open the garage door before getting in the car but I was just wondering if this is normal, that the car has to be powered up to utilize the garage door buttons?

Yes the car needs to be on for the homelink to work. It's a safety feature. If your car was in the driveway unlocked the bad guy can get into your house.
I use the voice control on the navigation and have saved addresses without it launching, but without being in the car I can't explain how. Lol

since we are talking navigation, why doesn't my 2014 nav shows when my next turn is, but shows the next 3 exits on my way.
I need to use the control know, click on RPT, to learn "in 20miles, take exit xx".
I will take a screenshot, on my way home.

Raja, did you "start" route guidance? That might show your next turn. For the next part of your question, where it shows you the next three exits, go to NAVI, click Map Settings, and Highway Information. Shut that option off. That will clear that clutter up. Let me know if that helps

Yes, I did 'start', else, I couldn't use the 'RPT' feature

I don't mind that information, it is kind of useful anyway, but, while on guidance, I don't see the required information.
With the new COMMAND firmware update and pre-2015 NAV, there is something wrong I guess. I would setup a service appointment and drop it off this week.
Meanwhile, I'll take a video and see if that is normal behavior or not.

hmm, I am at a loss. My navigation works perfectly so far. I have only had my car for 2 days so post a video and I will see how I can help.

I did check, the next turn info will be displayed few 100 feet before the turn.
I want something that shows the next turn indefinitely and reduces the distance, like the rest of the GPS devices (Google/Apple maps on cell phone; Garmin Nuvi) do.

OK, now I see what you are looking for. I noticed your Multi Function Dispaly had the Distronic screen on it. Try switching your MFD to NAVI, you should see what your next turn is and how far the distance is for that turn. Then you can switch your command screen to radio or whatever. Let me know if that helps.

I don't get it, it is in fullscreen Nav screen, right?
Oh, you mean, near the ODO?
I'll try that, but that is really bad, there is a whole screen for that, I need MPG meter, to keep my foot under control.
Forcing me to use that screen sucks.

There should be a way, but I agree with you---navigating thru the older COMAND was already complicated enough, but this new COMAND is a lot more complicated than it should be. I would hope there is a way to save addresses (I've only had my car for about a month too, and haven't gotten that far yet...lol). On BMW, you just click the Option button on iDrive controller.

Well at least we know your CPA works Mine still doesn't warn me.
But I see what you mean about the Nav....you want to know when the next exit is, even if it's 200 miles away, right? I know there is a verbal command in BMW called "Route Info", try that to see if maybe it's similar for Mercedes.

Yes, that verbal thing is available: exit full screen, next to Nav, there is "RPT", click on it, and it'll say, "In 223 miles, keep right"..!

Don't you wish there was a hard RPT button, like on the W211's?

Yeah, as always, they said it was "operating fine"

there are so many buttons already, hope they give us the option to customize them.

Phone have two buttons, one brings telephone and the other brings recently dialed or something.

Yeah, as always, they said it was "operating fine"
take it to a parking lot or open space, put a couple of cardboards like fridge size and try to avoid that too, but, at least, if you fail to avoid, you don't have damage..!

I thought on the newer COMAND you could bring up fuel economy info in the nav screen as well? It would be in the System menu, I think... unless that was on an even newer version of it than the 2014 one... or I could be making this up.

I'll check those options over the weekend then.
