Drive my own W212 or rent a nice sedan?
Which makes more financial sense? I have a 1400 mile, with many stops in between, 2 day trip coming up.
Should I rent a nice car for about $100 total or drive my car? obviously the considerations are wear and tear on my nice W212 sedan vs. not having the enjoyment of driving my own vehicle. What do you think is the per mile cost of my E250 Diesel?

Take your car! I have a 2002 e430 with 199,000 miles and have to drive 1000 miles this weekend. I can't wait, it's like my home away from home, plus the performance on the Alabama Autobahn is something I look forward to. Why would you avoid adding miles? Are you looking to keep it under warranty longer?

I can't stand being away from my car. I always elect to drive my cars on a trip. I hate everything the rental car companies offer, if it's not a Mercedes or BMW. You bought your car for a reason: because of the way it makes you feel; indulge in it!

Well I think you answered your own question. Which makes more financial sense? Renting a car. But if you were into making financial sense, you wouldn't own a Mercedes. Putting those extra miles does add extra wear and tear on the car. I've done things recently like replace the tires, change tensioner/pulleys, shocks, etc. The more miles you put on, the sooner all that happens. But if you can afford it, drive the car. My solution to keeping down the miles on mine was to get a second one...

First off, I love to drive my car on trips. It's the best part of the experience. I only rent when my sedan doesn't suit the purpose of the trip.
If you are in a lease and concerned about mileage limits, then seven cents a mile on the rental is a smart move. But otherwise the mileage you are talking about is a drop in the bucket.

FWIW, I put 4300miles since april 29th 2017.
Provided, it is missing 1400miles on the clock, since the vehicle is with dealer and I got a loaner vehicle, which I used to travel to Richmond, VA. So, If the car is with me, I would've put extra 1400 miles on it.
That is the reason I purchased a used car, to put lots of miles.
I'm planning to get into flying a drone hobby, so, more miles to come, to look for nice scenic places

OK....... I get it. The poll result so far is: Drive the E250 Diesel by 16 to 3.
Obviously this isn't a financially sensible group but more like a W212 fan club......
So, fair enough. I asked the question and got the answer.
I will drive it. And, report back with MPG comments and along with highlights and low-lights..... Thanks for your participation in my unscientific and biased poll.
