Mercedes Benz warranty price options
Hey all,
I don't have any warranty on my 2012 Mercedes Benz E350 4Matic and was given two options. I currently have around 56,000+ miles and I noticed when I was accelerating up a hill today their was no power and then as I had my foot on the accelerator the power felt like it cut off and then all of a sudden the car picked up power and shot up the hill quickly. Yesterday, when I put my car from park and drive noticed I felt like thump sound and then it did it again in another parking lot but that was it. Then also when I was driving back on a highway when I took my foot off the accelerator pedal it felt like something was shifting and I can't fully explain this but did it twice. When I got on a straight away eventually the car wasn't shifting smooth as I was driving. Then today I noticed driving slow in a parking lot and turning my car wobbled and the front of the car felt like t was bouncing up and down. Did it again in another parking lot but haven't been able to do it again. Also, when I turn my car off it makes this CD player sound change in the front of the engine area and a frequency sound playing for a little while after I turn the car off.
I went to get a OBD2 reading but it came up with RE ERROR twice and then said done, I also didn't have the car key turned at all not sure if that makes a difference. I asked autozone and they said it was 0/0 nothing electrical but I had rodents pee and poop under my hood so wondering could there be damage any way like wiring. I was told that rodents can also cut the wires that tell me something electrical is not working since no service lights came on at all during any of these problems but a scanner for OBD2 can?
What could the problems be?
And from 56,000+ to over 100,000 mileage what kind of problems could happen with a 2012 E350 4matic?
Is the warranty really worth it? And is this too expensive for 4 or 5 years?
$7,698 Covering from 56,000+ to 121,000 mileage. additional [65,000] mileage / 60 months = 5 years
$6,397 Covering from 56,000+ to 104,000 mileage. Additional [48,000] mileage / 48 months = 4 years

You shouldn't have let your original warranty ran out. Buying extended warranty would have been much cheaper, much much cheaper. A 7yr/100K is about $3000. Sorry man suck to be you!

Wow those prices are like a 3rd of the cars value. I've never heard of pricing being that high. Have you checked in the section of the forum with warranty vendors?

That sounds like aftermarket pricing on warranties. When I got the MB ELW quote from my dealer, they also gave me a quote for Fidelity coverage that was almost 3 times the cost.
And if the issue is due to pest damage, I would think most ELW would exclude that from coverage. You may want to check with your car insurance to see if comprehensive insurance covers it.

Mileage coverage sounds OK.
But your 2012 is already 5 yrs old, I doubt if extended warranty goes out to 9 - 10 yrs... I'll double check on that.
& also, only buy genuine Mercedes warranty

It's basically too late. You mind as well roll the dice and go to an indy if anything happens.
You can only buy the extended if it has less than 50k and within the 4 years of the original warranty. With a 2012, that was probably last year or even the year before.
I'm over 100k at this point on my 2011, gotta do motor mounts. Going to shop around for an indy, looks like it's not a simple job as you have to take off the alternator, a/c compressor and the both cats and as it's a 4matic, I'm stuck with OEM parts, probably looking at $600-$800 including parts and labor. In some other thread, the dealer quoted them $1700. So if you had the warranty, good deal at the dealer, but the indy can be much cheaper.

Oh, about the only good deal sorta left is the 3 maintenance package. You can buy it if the car has under 80. At this point, you'd have the 60, 70 and 80k coming up. I believe plugs are at 60k which is expensive on a 2012 due to having to take the intake manifold off and I think transmission fluid is at 80k. They usually charge extra separately to do those but I believe they're included if you use the maintenance package. There's not much of a discount, but you can also buy it from a vendor in the extended warranty sub forum. As mentioned above, I wouldn't bother with a 3rd party warranty, way too much and the typical problems you run into is the run around they give you to approve repairs or they go out of business. Part of the reason they're so high is that there's a hefty profit in it for the dealer.

Does any one know what that lightning symbol and tool symbol? I tried to pop off the engine cover but stopped because of sounds and wasn't easy to pull off. Then I popped and pushed down on the cover where the lightning and tool symbol and heard some noises underneath and also what sounded like electrical or mechanic noises underneath even though my car was off?

No idea, but that lighting symbol is probably a warning for high voltage. My bixenons have that sticker also.

It actually looks like an arrow zig zag down as I looked again with a wrench in a book symbol?

2014 E550-sold 😩
Most MB engine covers just pull straight up and off. You need to pull back the air intake hoses, but they design these things so the mechanics can get to the engine quickly without removing tedious fasteners.
