Been loving the wealth of information everyone in the forums is providing. I've been able to do some cool stuff to my new W212 that I would've struggled with otherwise.
Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade my wheels for the summertime. I've finally narrowed done my preference to 7 spoke 'BBS' style wheels, which I'm not exactly sure of the name, but I'm a fan of the classic good looks.
I'm looking to keep the wheel cost under 1500 if at all possible - so I know that rules out HREs, for example. But I am looking for QUALITY that will last and have resale value.

LOL, yeah, guilty. I zero in on something like a hawk until I’m satisfied. I really thought about the entire quality of replicas and the whacky offsets between them all, etc.
Then I saw that classic design on the M590s and I remember wanting them on my second car, a ‘99 Jetta in 2004 and I was sold. I convinced myself they’ll be better quality, have better resale, and a good warranty.
Called the local distributor, he got me on Conti DWS06s in 245/35 and 285/30 with OEM TPMS, mount, balance, and install for 2300 cash.
...that was a quick phone call.

The dude at the wheel distributor mentioned that my former wheels had the wrong tires on them - 245/45 I believe, and as a result, I was rubbing the front fenders on turns. It slightly twisted the lip of the fender, but I was able to turn it back with a little oomph.
The new wheels have 245/35s on them, which do appear a bit smaller. The wheel well is naturally a bit more apparent, which I'm still getting used to. I'm not sure I can lower it without running the risk of those front fenders rub again - nor do I really want to now have to lower it.
All in all I'm pretty happy with the change. The older wheels were replica, and I'm probably going to replace the cracked one and throw some proper rubber on them as a winter set. They make the car appear elegant. The new wheels are definitely much more sportier, so I'm deciding what will go and stay - thinking about ditching that front lip, for instance. Might paint the rear deck spoiler black. Decisions, decisions.

Ah, cool. Apparently I also have the sport spring suspension. I may leave it the way it is, maybe the tires are lacking some sheen so it's more apparent. I'll give it a week.
Take a picture of the pothole. I need to see this thing. I'm in Chicago and our roads are just as bad or worse, but that pothole you hit has to be huge!

The excuse? For potholes? I mean...they're a grim reality when you use ****ty, cheap asphalt for your roads. We get a ton of snow and ice. It expands. It breaks the road. It isn't a conspiracy or anything.
But I agree, it broke way too easily for my comfort. Can't do anything about it now, can I? I did hit that mother going 50 or so, so, take it as you will.
I'm pretty scared to be driving on these. I did some cursory glancing around before I purchased them and they seemed alright, but this is ridiculous. Two wheels? I mean, the pothole was bad, but not that bad.
I'm scouring the internet now and I'm seeing horror stories for these wheels. I'm screwed!
I am old enough to remember driving East Germany autobahns in 1980's.
Original, build by *****'s slave labor, neglected by communistic government, harsh weather, yet 40 years old concrete did not have potholes and few years later, having better car I did not hesitate to keep speedometer at 200 kph
Coming back to the rims, the material does look soft from the picture, I bent MB wheel only once in my life and even the edge moved close to what you had - the rim did not crack and I did not notice the bend till 150 miles later at my destination.
There is a guy on youtube who got W211 for next to nothing and it was test- beating it on even bigger potholes than this one. The car took it "just fine" on factory rims.
I hate the asphalt used here. It’s cool to know MB wheels are held at a higher standard. I’m really going to try and sell these. I can’t imagine I’ll take anything less than a massive hit, even when I get my wheel and tire insurance to replace two.
I was in Germany in January, cruising through Bavaria in a rented 911 without a care in the world on those incredible highways. Here, I’m swerving, zig zagging and twisting around like I’m in a third world country. It’s ridiculous.
