'12 E350 turned itself on after pressing panic button on FOB?

I thought I knew these cars pretty well but today I experienced something that I did not think was possible.

So here's the story:

Windows were down, car was locked. Key was in the house. I manually unlocked the driver's side door by pulling up on the locking mechanism. I then proceeded to open the door and alas the alarm went off. Ran in the house to grab the key and after pressing the PANIC button (to silence the alarm) something very strange happened. The car started itself...

Has anyone experienced this before? The car does not have push start feature.

If you're not the original owner, maybe the previous owners had that aftermarket remote starter kit installed in your vehicle.

How many times did you try to repeat that behavior? I’m having some difficulty believing this story.

raja777: That is possible but I am not able to turn the car on by simply pressing or holding the PANIC button. The scenario has to play out as I described (i.e. alarm has to go off, PANIC button pressed).

I tried three times to repeat the behavior -- worked every time.

I will take a video later and post it so you can see for yourself.

Strangest thing I ever experienced with a car...

Ok, wow. You should definitely contact MB about this. I’m sure if there is any kind of glitch in the system, they would want to know.

What a way to discover you have remote start. How many of us who bought used are now running outside to press the panic button?

Remote start is something I am missing on my MB when switching from Ford, but the site is not giving much info, while after filling up contact form- I got error message and it is not going anywhere.
Any more info koningstiger?

The website noted on that pdf seems to use the same model numbers as mid city (about $600). Perhaps there is only one solution offered.

Ok, I guess this is a very rare option. I can’t remember ever seeing any other posts on this remote starter system. Pushing the panic button is indeed an odd setup unless this is common throughout the automotive industry. I have never owned a car with remote start.

This is aftermarket unit from what I see and MB hesitates to use remote start for security reasons.
On my Ford remote I have special button for start, but procedure is:
-hit "lock" button
- hit "start" button twice.
Hard to start the engine accidentally and Ford will start from 1/4 mile and around the corner. Did not test it farther, but have a feeling that 1/2 mile might not be out of question.

Thank you konig for posting the bulletin. Pleasant surprise I must admit...would have never figured although all indicators pointed toward that conclusion.

Just gave it another go (hold PANIC on keyfob for half second and release). Worked like a charm...the key is to simply press PANIC without holding and everything works as according to the bulletin.

mbrace says I do not have remote start, but the build sheet for my 2016 shows "J8A DSM STAR1 FBS4 REMOTE STARTABLE" Is this code for the "feature" described in the pdf?
