Renntech Resonator ?

I just installed a pair of E63 mufflers on my car and am looking for something "extra" with the volume. I see where people have installed the Renntech resonator removal pipe but don't see anywhere that it's still available. Is this still available, and if not, will someone chime in and let me know if it was an X or H style crossover?

Thanks!

Has anyone removed the catalytic converters, ahead of the resonator? Based on modding many non-mercedes over the years, reducing cats or using high flow cats give you a very noticeable gain in sound.
I don't' want to change the downpipes to high flow cats due to cost and labor involved so I wanted to try other options first.

I think your only real option would be just to take off the resonator and install straight pipes or an xpipe if you dont want to spend a whole lot of money

You will see a dramatic change in sound with catted or non catted downpipe

Agree regarding the downpipes and is partly why I'm holding off going this route. I'm referring to the small cats located just in front (towards the engine) of the resonator. From researcing it appears some have replaced the small cats with an x pipe, and then used straight pipes in place of the resonator located in the middle of the car.
Anyone have input/experience with these mods?

Thanks!

Do you mean these ones? I'd love to see you try it out and report back!

I personally think catted downpipe + stock resonator + e63 mufflers has best sound, loud enough but not at all obnoxious. I currently rock some catted downpipe + xpipe + e63 mufflers because the x pipe gives me a little more crackles and pops

I believe what you have circled is the resonator, no? What I see towards the flange that connects to the downpipes is a secondary cat, correct? I'm assuming the downpipes connect to this flange and also have a cat coming of each bank of the engine.
Doesn't seem to be very much room, but inserting straight pipes in place of these secondary cats, and then an x pipe in the circled portion, in what I believe is the resonator is what I was thinking.

Which brand catted downpipes do you have, Speedriven?

Thanks for the input, man!

So the yellow circle is the main cats, the hole in the middle is for the o2 sensor I think. The red circle to me, looks like more a secondary cat. After the red circle is what I would call the resonator. I have that swapped for an xpipe.

my downpipes do not have the red circled cats, and comes with a smaller primary cat (yellow circle)

My catted downpipes are from Speedriven. I had an awful hard time actually getting the part delivered to me. They told me 3-4 weeks because they're custom made, but it took them 2.5 - 3 months to actually arrive. At some early point in time they did tell me they're in holiday season and really busy, but they just would not communicate back, wouldn't answer messages or emails, no updates etc.

the downpipes itself are pretty cool though, I'd give them a try outside of holiday seasons though.

I dont have any photos of the downpipes installed, but if you like, I can snap a quick photo the next time it's up on a lift

Great info, thank you! Pictures of the installed downpipes would be great if you'll have her on the lift at some point.

Very helpful seeing the catted downpipes and placement of your x pipe.
Is this your personal lift? If so,I'm jealous!

Thanks again

2014 E550 4MATIC TUNED - Turbo Upgraded Stage 3
get rid off all the cats....3inch downpipe + x pipe or straight pipe and 3 inch all the way to the end...

If you want, get rid of muffler too.
Be warned, you might need some ear bud during driving.

I'm sure she'll arrive with more presence with that setup! I've always installed high flow cats on prior cars for a balance of sound, tone and smell and will most likely do the same here. After digging around and looking at the pictures LemonSqueezy was kind enough to post, it appears these turbo 550's come with one set of cats to begin with anyhow.
Never tire of seeing your car btw......well done!
