Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

I have just updated from a 2006 W211 estate to a 2011 W212 and seem to have lost any tyre pressure read outs. The car dashboard says that the system is operational and allows me to reset the system, but the owners manual says that the dash should show individual tyre pressures and none are displayed. Anyone got any advice.

So, you set the display to show the tire pressure, but it just shows -- at each wheel?

(procedure for a 2012
Checking tire pressure electronically X Make sure that the SmartKey is in position 2 (Y page 145) in the ignition lock. X Press the
or [right] button on the steering wheel to select the Service menu. X Press the [up] or [down] button to select Tire Pressure. X Press the [OK] button.
The current tire pressure for each wheel will be displayed in the multifunction display. If the vehicle has been parked for longer than 20 minutes, the Tire pressures will be displayed after driving a few minutes message appears in the display. After a teach-in period, the tire pressure monitor automatically recognizes new wheels or new sensors. If a clear allocation of the tire pressure values to the individual wheels is not possible, the Tire Pressure Monitor Active message is shown instead of the tire pressure display. The tire pressures are already being monitored.

No it doesn't show anything at all, no picture of the car, and no tyre pressures, it just shows the menu that says"run flat indicator active". I have attached a picture showing the message I get but note that the image is a stock photo and isn't my actual dash. If you click on OK it asks if the tyre pressures as present are OK then restarts but it never shows a picture of the car or the tyre pressures.

Have someone check for stored fault codes using MB DAS (diagnostics) system incorporates a control unit & tire pressure sensor to each wheel, see attachment.

Is your car equipped with an Indirect TPMS system(Euro)? Indirect systems work off of tire rotation and don’t show pressure values like a direct TPMS system does. You will get a warning only once the system notices a tire descrepancy.

Yes I appreciate that there is a system that doesnt actually measure the tyre pressures but the handbook that comes with the car does not mention this other lesser system. The handbook definitely states that i should get individual tyre pressures displayed. I also appreciate that the MB handbooks cover just about anything and everything that can be fitted to a car, and therefore my car does not necessarily have any or all of the systems described in the handbook, in fact its obvious that the car doesn't have a lot of stuff that could have been fitted, BUT... big BUT.... For every other "option" the car could come with ALL of the options are described in the handbook. The handbook for the E350 CDI does not mention any alternative TPMS system, so on that basis every E350 CDI will have the more advanced TPMS system and I should be able to see tyre pressures displayed on the dash. I am coming to the conclusion that the next stop is my tyre suppliers and ask them to strip a rim and see if the wheels actually have TPMS sensors or not. Even if the sensors are fitted their batteries might well have died ; the car is 7 years old. However I just replaced a 2006 E280 and the sensors on that car were all working after 14 years and 160K miles, so using that as comparison the sensors in a 2011 car with only 90K miles on the clock should have working sensors.

Vehicle is not equipped with tire pressure check (code 745) gray indicates not valid for this VIN, see attachments.

Well thats a bummer. How hard is it to retro fit the 745 system considering that I run around with a lot of kit onboard and being able to see tyre pressures has really helped on the old car. I assume that there is some method of rear fitting, or else anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket alternatives.

I do however find it a bit odd that Merc would release their flagship estate model (at date of sale 2011 ; barring AGM etc) with an inferior system installed, and as i said the handbook doesn't even mention that not having this lesser system was indeed an option. I am now a tad annoyed with myself that I didn't check this out better before buying the car. Thanks for all the help thus far. Regards.
