Footwell Temperature Sensor wiring

I tried replacing the passenger side footwell temperature sensor but found out the connector was broken inside the old sensor. Now I'm left with two bare wires and a new sensor. I just ordered a new connector. Does anyone know the wiring of this? One is green/purple, the other is yellow/brown. Don't know if there's a way to figure out using multimeter...

Check the connector for wire color coding but since it's a thermister it doesn't matter since they don't have a positive or negative. Shop manual would show schematic. No warranty on my advise🙄

Do you have a part number for the replacement connector? I found the same problem when i was changing my cabin filter.

I don't think the temperature itself is broken, because I tested it with the multi-meter and it seemed working. so you probably just need to replace the connector.

Bumping this: replaced cabin filter today and found same thing in the compartment (the car is new to me). Where does one buy a connector like that? I'd prefer not to in person at dealer; our local marks up at least 40-50% on parts vs. ordering online.

Also, the part numbers above seemed to be the sensor itself, but maybe I'm messed up. Any help is appreciated!

You will also need the metal crimp sleeves that go inside the plastic connector. Easiest way is to take the wire trimmings from stripping the old cable into your dealers parts department to find the match by comparison. They are about $2 each. Won’t make electrical contact without then.

I was greeted by the connector hanging broken above the bolster when I dropped it to change the combo filter. Annoying as the car was only ever serviced at the dealership.... The dealer sells the connector and they also sell a repair cable that is about 12" long and has male and female ends. The cable ends also have a silicone rubber seals that I suppose are required for repairing waterproof connectors. Cut the cable in half, remove the rubber seals as they won't fit the new connector. Solder and shrink, now there is a little more slack to work with when removing the panel.

Make sure to order a pair of the "Electrical" parts, you need a pair of the cables for the female ends.

Thanks Dave, very helpful! Trying to do something good today I decided to change the cabin air filter in my wife's car and found the exact same thing, connector broken in half. Just ordered the doo dads from my dealer, along with some free coffee. Well, it's free when I go to get the parts.

I was just looking over my post, I should have added that you need to order a pair of the first part number listed. The "electrical" is only one cable with a male and female end. You need two of them to cut in half for the female ends....Google the part number for images.
Dave
ps. on a good day at Star Motors in Ottawa they have bagels and donuts go go with the free coffee!

I did indeed google them and ordered two, because they were $4/ea.

Hi All.

I'm replacing my connector as well. Dumb question. Once I replace it, how will I know if this sensor is working correctly? From what I can tell, all my climate settings are working in terms of the AC and the heater.

Thank you in advance.

Well if you had a scanner that read MB specific codes, the error message that tells you there's a temperature sensor error would go away. There are many out there that start at $45 and go up to $600-$800 for a MB Star/Xentry system. But a basic $50-$150 unit should be all that you need. Two cheap ones that come to mind are the Autel AP200 at Amazon, about a tad over $60 and the Thinkcar Pro from Launch. About $45 from Aliexpress but maybe a bit more if you find a vendor in the US but faster shipping. A few others that get mentioned are icarsoft, Foxwell, Autel Diaglink, Carly, Bluedriver etc.

just want to say thaks.

Ran into same issue yesterday. Plug snapped in middle and both connectors also broken.

Was able to get the plug and the 2 wires from dealer today and complete the repair. The part numbers are spot on ( plug 029-545-55-28, connector wire 000-540-23-05).

Would like to thank the community sharing knowledge which have certainly saved me quite a bit of head scratching.

Cheers!

Its a curse. I just replaced our '16 E400 with a low mileage '14 CLS 550 a week ago. Checking it over and lo and behold, the connector on the new car was damaged too. Again, I have all the dealer service records and the combo filter in the car is a clean OE MB version so its likely it was damaged at a dealership.

Unless you know its there, it is very easy to damage the connector when removing the panel. Same part numbers for the 14 CLS and back in business with a pair of longer wires.

My iCarsoft MBV2 scanner didn't capture any faults.

Given parts were readily avalible at the dealer, this likely is a pretty common issue.

To the mod::
This thread should be a sticky with direct reference to cabin filter replacement for this generation of MB vehicles.

I’m also having the same issue what you are having! I’m trying to find it online and buy it. But, no luck! Have you find a solution?

Hello, if I just leave it unattached from the two wires and the plastic piece. Would it throw a code? It seems it wasn’t attached at all.

Thermistor doesn't care which wire is connected to either terminal.

When replacing MB electrical plug connectors you will also need the metal sleeves that crimp to the wire and make the actual electrical contact inside the plastic plug. It is almost impossible to figure out which you need and order them online. I would recommend trying to figure it out with the plug at your local MB dealer parts counter.

THe wire sleeves are already crimped to the wire if you order the parts listed in one of my earlier posts..

wire nuts shortcut...

If MB parts counter can not find your spare connector, here is a quick bush fix to reconnect your thermistor...

use the grey size if you will

available from your local garden center or Amazon.

Directly soldering an extra 2Ft length wire also a good plan-B.
