But if I can get a hold the firmware from someone and the code, can I use it?
For that specific re-seller, yes. But, you must be careful as they will send out custom firmware when troubleshooting one customer's specific problem that may cause issues with your unit.
So far, and knock-on-wood, RoadTop has been responsive when I have contacted them but they do not have a website to download the 'latest version' like Joyeauto.

But have they given you firmware over email? Or have you not needed it.

They direct one to a private download site. I personally have not needed firmware, but have helped others that have. When I contacted them about a firmware update for myself the response was that unless I had a specific issue that required resolution they were not gonna send me one if my setup was working 100%. I have no idea what they will do in the future with general firmware updates.
Okay ordered my roadtop! So I need to buy a reverse camera now.
Does this AndroidAuto/CarPlay box I bought have:
1) can it superimpose via software gridlines for the reverse camera? if so, can it be turned on and off?
2) do the gridlines move with the steering wheel?
I ordered 1 extension fakra video cable for mine and mounted it under the aluminum plate at the end of the passenger footwell, there was a gap of maybe 25mm between it and the firewall so I put some foam tape on it and ran the cables under the carpets to it. works nicely and a 2 min job with no tools if I need to look at it, and only 4 bolts if I need to remove it
Do you have a link to the extension cable, just trying to understand what each end point is / male / female?
Also pics would be awesome!
I have a W204 NTG 4.5, do I need to buy anything extra? My centre handrest has an Aux in there via MMI I think. Just making sure I have everything purchased - do I need anything, like a 3.5mm extension? So far some trim opening tools and T20 screwdriver.

I was hoping the latest update would solve the issues I have been having. For about the last 3-4 months, the Joyeauto interface will not automatically connect with my iphone about 95% of the time. The Bluetooth will only connect when I turn off, then back on the Bluetooth on my iphone. Then on the wifi connection is says something like "No internet available". I turn the wifi off, then back on then it connects. Another thing that started about this same time is Waze will not automatically go from night to day, even though the setting is on auto. Waze works as it should when the iphone is not connected to the Joyeauto interface. Anyone else have this?
Just received a MCU update from reseller, quick translation of change log:
1. Modify 1F7 to send a set of unchanged data in the carplay interface and change in the original car interface
2. Filter CAN2 received the host ID 2C5 and 538 data
3. Solve the problem of splash screen and sleep after loading
Thanks cadetdrivr, this has been the best thread on the installation of the CarPlay device. I got the road top unit a couple of days ago and it works great.
The volume is a bit lower than the normal radio which is a minor annoyance and probably have to play with the equalizer. The sound quality on initial listen is more muted and neutral than the stock setup.
Overall very happy with the unit overall.
Hi all, my first post - be nice
1) Have you ever resolved how to get the volume closer to the factory normalized level?
Switching back to factory radio/DVD/BT would be way too loud when using my AMI aux adapter, this especially importanta without any visual indicator of volume level on Comand. Is there Road Top volume or EQ which would make the two more even? I tried just listening to music via Aux yesterday and when I switched back to another input the system was blaring way too loud and I would intend to still use the factory Radio etc while maps or waze are on the screen.
1b) Does the RoadTop system keep sending audio via Aux once the C button forces switch back to Comand or does the audio stop? On the first video during installation the music stopped. Again, using this unit I expect an upgrade from BT Audio quality and would be ok streaming music wirelessly while looking at something on the Comand (dial or navigation)?
2) Thanks to OP for great thread, Trying to decide still is this worth getting this for my Android but this thread mostly covers CarPlay and seems it is not seamlessly integrated with factory unit but it is pretty good. Any Android users here to chime in?
3) Has anyone requested the fw upgrade from RoadTop to enable next track skip via joystick like for Joyeauto as that also seems crucial feature I like on Comand no matter what input I am using.
4) Also, does Comand sound adjustment setting still work on Aux input that Bass/Tre/Logic7 adjustment is possible when direct Aux (not ami) is used here? I am not eager to give up the sound quality of the stock system.
In order to Android phone mirror you need a cable as well as Autolink App (for Android this only works when cable is connected)
When cable is connected I found out the phone charges slowly as the USB connection is intended for fw update.
I did find out that the USB connection also supports movies in mp4 format, which is another plus if you want to put stuff on USB stick (their video showed 32GB stick playing a movie) - this should work for both CarPlay and AndroidAuto
Also, he confirmed the skip track via joystick is not supported but I asked if it can be handled via firmware upgrade and will update here if changes.
I think the main issues for me even if wireless AA worked, would be the skip track function missing, no audio when switching to Comand, lack of fast charge via USB (as all the new phones can benefit from it including iphone).
Remaining Questions:
Confirmed there is no audio sent from Carplay once going back to Comand - is this true from folks who have this installed?
I asked the engineer about the volume change on Aux from Comand source and he said there is none but I would still like to hear from folks here using it if there is a significant difference in volume when switching to any Comand function or Radio/CD/DVD?
No, that seller contacted me the next day saying this is an error and they can't provide it and requested I cancel my order.
Suspect some person using it to scam AliExpress to get higher rankings.
Purchased unit from road top
Great, thanks for the quick update. RoadTop is now $233 so the prices keep going down. Might be worth waiting until 11/11 when they usually go on sale for Chinese version of Black Friday

AliExpress has a sale right now across all items (I'm guessing they must be not charging fees or something?) so good time to buy now.
Just received a MCU update from reseller, quick translation of change log:
they sent me this file to update due to me having 360 camera issues, mainly moment i get out of R camera goes away
didnt resolve issue
Side issues
bluetooth call quality, on Road top unit its bad, people say they cant hear me, wouldnt be much of a problem except AA defaults back for calls.
MB bluetooth works flawlesly, any one have better audio settings or anything that can help?
Does this unit work if you have the 360 cameras? I keep seeing these boxes only having two camera inputs (front and rear) but what do you do if you have the cameras in the side mirrors?
Can anyone confirm is there a significant difference in audio level between Aux for roadtop and switching back to other sources on Comand (Radio, CD,etc)?

I can't tell any difference, at least with CarPlay. I don't know if something else is happening with Android Auto.
FWIW, in the Setup menu on the RoadTop unit there is a control to adjust audio level. Mine happens to be set at the default of 17 (on a 1-18 scale).

Perfect, that is what I was looking for. I did not realize there is an audio level setting in there.

Belive audio stays on, my android auto ausio stayed on.
they shared some new mcu and system update with me to try to fix 360 camera, its almost fixed, except it still turns off front view at around 10kph, insted of 35, but its consistent and the unit seems more stable, unsure if i should share here
