4 years of ownership, 60k miles later
Hello all, I have had my 2010 e350 4matic for 4 years now, got it with 29k miles, it just recently got to 90k miles and there are a few things that have gone south since I bought it, just wanted to share on here. Maybe someone will find the information useful. The car has been an amazing ride, I took it with my wife on our honeymoon to Niagara Falls and back, and really I have driven it anywhere a road can take me without concern. Unfortunately at 70k miles the main input bearing in the 7gtronic transmission had started making a whining sound. The car was brought to the dealer where they replaced everything from the torque converter down, with no sounds afterwards and driving smooth as ever. Fortunately I had bought a 3rd party extended warranty that ended up covering the repair bill of......this took me by surprise....$11,000!!! Also the control wheel in center had the common shaft break so it wont input from spinning, only using as joystick now. The car has been amazing and since my other vehicles are usually Honda, this has been the most comfortable car ever. I've modded it over the years with clear front markers, carbon fiber rear ducktail style spoiler, and will soon be installing 20x9.5 squared, brabus monoblock v's. The car also has euro style clear taillights. And I've upgraded all the lightbulbs to leds including low and highbeams, interior lights and led light strip in the trunk for better visibility.

The center control knob breaking is pretty common. There's a youtube video on how to fix it. You can either buy the repair piece on eBay, have someone repair it or just buy a new/used control knob to put in. My cover didn't close at one point so I used the video below to take it apart and fix it. It's basically pretty accurate and didn't take too long to take apart.

Looks good. Mine had been 98%. At 50,000 miles now. Ashtray lid broke. Dealer fixed it under warranty. Then I had to argue with the dealer about them not putting my cup holders back and taking them.

The warranty was offered by CNA National, I got the most expensive package which cost me around 3,800 but obviously paid for itself, they changed out the trans, and did a passanger side engine mount under warranty.

So what's the max time/mileage that extended warranty will cover?
I got extra 3 yrs (+4 factory to total 7 years) & 72000 miles at MB dealer on ours. So can u extended any more beyond that?

If you want anything outside of that, you'd have to go with a 3rd party warranty. There are only a few 3rd party warranty companies that are good. The problem with the rest of them is that they require inspections, have a limit on payout, go out of business, deny claims, don't pay the full amount, etc. You usually don't run into those types of issues when you have the warranty from the manufacturer. Once you're past 7 years, I think the additional costs for 3rd party warranties aren't really worth it. The profit margins are high for the dealers and they're more limited in their coverage too. You mind as well self insure at that point and take the car to an independent garage.
