E550 convertible VS E53
I'm looking at a '14-16' E550 convertible VS the new E53 rag top. I'm very disappointed that they didn't make an V8 E63 in the new convertible! I have owned an '04 CLK55 and miss the 2 door/four seat layout (currently have an '03 SL) . My idea is to get the last gen E550 soft top and possibly add tune & exhaust to where an E63 should have been power/performance wise. Anyone tried this successfully? Also, does anyone know if the E63 front and rear facias will fit the convertibles, possibly including a head light swap? I would really like to have the AMG look on the convertible w/o having to buy cheap crap aftermarket bumpers. Thanks.

The E53s interior is leagues above the last gen E class, but you won't be able to squeeze out that much power out of that i6. However if the interior doesn't make or break the car for you, the m278 in the E550 is a gem of a motor and can net you close to 600 hp with a tune and DPs, plus the v8 sounds way better than the I6.

Do either of you know if the front & rear bumpers can be swapped from the E63 sedan to an E550 convertible? I can't find any info on it being done, and i assume it would teake the hood, lights and bumper to make it happen up front. But I really would like the look of the AMG front end, and the quad pipes from the sedan. Thanks.

The stock e63 front and rear bumpers won't fit onto coupe.
But there are some aftermarket kit. Just need to be aware of the quality.

yep, E550 Coupe(C207)/Vert(A207) and e63(W212) Sedan are actually different chassis, nothing body-wise can be swapped over.
I agree with others, go E53 if you want tech, but if you wanna go fast, you gotta get the E550...my Eurocharged Sedan with straight pipes is a monster!

Hi Guys,
New to this forum and just wanted to add my 2 cents:
I purchased a tune from OE Tuning for my 2012 E550 Cab last week and here is a summary:
1) Jerry from OE Tuning is awesome to deal with; he is extremely responsive and helpful. Customer service is 10+ rating.
2) I purchased the tune method that uses the OBD2 rather than ECU removal; the customer support from Jerry during the install was awesome. Another 10+ rating.
3) Shipping was quite quick and Jerry made sure that I received the tracking info. It took less than a week to get to me and would have been quicker if FedEx didn't mess up.
4) Installation was easy and device was solid.
Now the good part, performance increase is definitely noticeable! If on a wet road I can't floor the car below 80kph as it just spins the tires; in the dry, launching in Sport mode requires respecting the throttle as a heavy right foot leads to tire spin. 80kph to 120kph is simply awesome! The car pulls really strong and I'm sure I'll give some AMG vehicles a good run now.
Bottom-line is I would highly recommend this product to anyone who as the M278 engine; this tune transforms the car to a real sleeper!
