Activate rear view camera without putting transmission in reverse?
Is there a way to activate the rear view camera without putting the car in reverse? I have a tight garage space and I like to see the back of the car is lined up to where it should be before I shut the car down. In my other cars, there is a button on the dash to turn on park assist function which activates the camera without the need to put the transmission in reverse.
I don't have parktronic on my S212 wagon so just the standard camera and no button to activate anything. I looked thru all the menu on COMAND and I didn't see a way to activate the camera. Any ideas?

I have the favorite button on the center console set to show the forward camera at any time, so I don't run right up to those concrete curb stops. Can you not do the same with the rear backup camera?

E class has the control user-very-unfriendly.
At some time I found option how to set GPS to keep it north-oriented and than could not find it again for 2 weeks.

I know that video is not the E class, but the favorite options are similar and includes the rear view camera. We have only one favorite button located to the left of the joy controller.

Even with it, however, I almost always walk around behind the car to ensure I'm fully in.

Don't laugh, but for garage parking...
I use a wiffle golf ball hanging from a string attached to the garage ceiling. Park the car where you want it in future, then hang the ball so it just touches the windshield, centered in front of the steering wheel/instrument cluster (viewed from your driver's seat).
Then in operation, simply drive into garage, aiming at the ball, and stop when your windshield touches it... a visual que for parking instead of stops on the floor that you trip over.
Works perfectly, centering the car (L-R) every time, and the preset length of the string ensures you park deeply enough into the garage every time. Even the wife likes it for her car.
Now, outside the garage driving in the Wild, Wild West, having a forward camera to spot those carnivorous parking slabs would be nice. But in the garage, no worries.

I have 2 favorite buttons - Solid star and emptry star.
Programmed one for all around camara via SYSTEM SETUP and found FAVORITE setup.
OR you can just go to system and find cameras to turn on....
as for garage I just back in using cameras and it has those little lines all lit up and I ensure the rear is a certain distance from rear wall and all is good.
I do have larger garage 24' x 24' inside dimensions 10ft wide his and her doors - These 10ft wide doors are great versus the old 8ft wide.
