I will have to inspect my car...
Thinking further on this... I'd like to determine whether the OP is regarding a continuing(?)or expanded investigation (in 2014) of remaining W211s. My W212 wasn't manufactured for another 18 months. Not good to read about in either case...

I do not smell gas within my car.

This is (almost) enough to convince me my next car should not be a Mercedes.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
The gas leak under the rear seat is most likely a fuel cap leak and the PZEV will cover that.
First, take it to a certified Mercedes dealer and ask the service advisor during write up if your car is under PZEV which will indicate when they run your VIN, if PZEV is indicated, most likely the dealer will ask you to pay for 1 hour diagnostic fee at which time they will find this cover under the PZEV emission warranty, then they will fix the problem and waive the diagnostic fee.
I would recommend indicating the car is slow to start at low speed and hesitates during acceleration. They will check for fault code and if your exhaust manifold is bad, the manifold will be replaced as well under the PZEV warranty.

Good luck.

FYI. I see allot of Mercedes that has this PZEV warranty that was covered.
obviously the OP is not going to drive around with a pull of gas in under his backseat so I would recommend taking it into a Mercedes dealer and let them run coverage because this is a known issue and it limited to 1 or 2 cases. Pay the 1 hour diagnostic fee as you will be getting it back from the dealer once it is confirmed coverage under the emissions warranty.
Best of luck.
