Bridgestone Turanzo

Dealer recommended Bridgestone Turanzo 245/24517 for 2013 e350 4. I would like quiet tires with good all year performance, including snow.

Good option or can I do better?

The Turanza is a quiet tire but susceptible to damage. They are the OEM tire for my daughter’s Honda Fit and she has had 1 bubbled tire and 1 blowout. I wish you good luck. Search through the many tire threads in here for recommendations

One to consider is Nokian zLine A/S. Nokian is known for their very expensive (and very good) winter tires in the North American market but basically nobody knows them for other tires they make.

I have had 6 sets of their tires on my different cars. All summer tires as I don't need tires for winter conditions other than possible 1-2 days a year. They make zLine summer tire for the rest of the world but stopped making or selling this favorite tire of mine here in the U.S. They replaced it with the zLine A/S, i.e. All Season version of the tire. This is what I will install under my car next. I went with Michelin MXM 4 Primacy tires when the zLine was discontinued and these tires have very poor wet grip compared to zLine I had 3 sets before.

zLine is very quiet tire that I also want from tires. zLine A/S has a bit more aggressive thread pattern for all season driving potentially making it more noisy but comparing it to the looks of Potenza it should be quieter.

The cost of Nokian is low for other than winter tires because they are not known for the other tires they make. zLine A/S in your size cost about $130 /tire at TiresByWeb that I have bought 3 sets from before. Bridgestone Turanza is over $200/tire at TireRack.

If you live in area (snowy winter states) where you can find a Nokian tire dealer you can go and find out more about this all. I do not have local dealer here in very south for them so I need to order over the web and find a local shop to put them on.

I have a Nokian dealer less than a mile form my home. There online price for the zline A/S you recommend comes in at $888 which includes install, balance, alignment as well as a protection package that takes care of balancing, flat repairs and alignment rechecks every six months.

This is about $550 cheaper than the Turanzas with better coverage.

Seems like it may be worth a try!

Many, many choices for our cars ... try the ratings at TireRack to see all the possibilities that fit your criteria. I wanted extra quiet tires with a comfortable ride and am delighted with my Pirelli Cinturato P7s ... but they might be all wrong for the next person ...

Same store, same package with your P7's comes in at $1,008.

Honestly, it isn't about the money as much as it is about the tires overall performance. We drive in all weather from MA in NH and enjoy a quick, comfortable and stable ride!

70k tire warranty from the Pirelli's is a confident statement!

70k tire has no good grip on any surface. For grip tire needs to be soft especially for snow and ice grip. Wet grip too.

Nokian rubber compound remains very very soft in cold temperature and this is one of the reasons why their winter tires are so good in cold climate winter driving.

They used to have a video clip on their site where dry ice was placed on a tire to freeze the rubber but the rubber remained pliable and did not break when moved with pliers.

If I had Nokian tire seller near by where I could go and get tire package like you I would have been there yesterday.

What happened to that $130/tire price for the Nokian? Why $888 for the set? What is the tire and install cost without the alignment and insurance

$128 / tire from TiresByWeb free shipping. This does not include installation yet.

I have had tires installed for $20-$30 / tire so it has been around $100 more for me than just the tire pricing.

Last time I bought zLine tires they were $112 / tire so total installed was about $550. But there is no hazard insurance or tire rotation included in this pricing.

I buy these tires solely for wet traction. I would buy the zLine instead zLine A/S but it seems they stopped selling it in our market area for some reason.

Forget the alignment. After doing the front struts on my car there is no alignment adjustment for anybody to do. If you have no alignment issues you do not need one and if you do then you need to go to MB or someone else who knows what to do. Only thing any shop can do for alignment is the toe adjustment. Are your tires wearing at outer or inner edges? If not you do not need alignment.

Other than that pricing is quite close to what I need to pay when I get them.

And for everybody's record, I do not have any kind of relationship with this Nokian Tires company. I just happen to know about their tires and how good they are. Winter tires are known in N.A. but summer tires are not and this makes it so good as their tires are so much lower cost as they are not a big known maker, yet.

They just opened a new tire plant in Tennessee this year and they will be better known and I'm afraid their summer tire pricing will go up.

I am pretty sure I've seen Nokian zLine tires in Walmart for a very reasonable price, like under $100 .

I have seen those prices, but you need to make sure you are looking at the proper spec tire with the 98 XL load. That makes a difference in what you pay for these. Shop carefully.

Good choice.

Now, as you still have your current tires you could do a little test to compare to the Nokians.

Find a wet piece of road and put car on HOLD. Then step on gas hard to see how much the slip control activates. You can turn the slip control off for this too to see how easily the tires spin.

Then do do the same test with zLine tires.

Do this test on wet road, no snow or ice, just water.

About 10 years ago I was using Bridgestone - an H rated tire that would always wear out very fast. Then I was recommended Hankook Ventus which I have been using almost exclusively ever since.

Very good, well-rounded performance and depending on whether you prioritize performance or durability they have plenty of options from V12 to Optimo. They are also one of the few tires with top heat rating and a weight rating adequate for my W211 although the W212 is not as heavy.

It's a respectably quiet tire until it nears end of life, at which point they do get noisy. To me it's a good alarm warning

Turned around and had him pull every wheel and balance them again.

He immediately tried to blame it on the tires, which he had never heard of. I watched him spin them all...most where out by 3 oz. He managed to 0 them all out and everything seems fine now.
Not the quietest ride, but very acceptable and no more thumping!

Good you finally get it all fixed.

How do you feel about wet grip on those Nokians?

So, I know it's been a while! The Nokians were put on right before the pandemic. From the start, they were noisy. Over the past 3 years, the tires may have 10k miles on them and the noise is just way too much! The car is in the shop having Pilots installed. One wheel needed to be sent out for repair.

Will update when I take it for a ride. Happy New Year.
