Anyone Try Pulling the Fuse for ECO Stop/Start?
I searched this forum on the "Fuse Method" for disabling ECO Stop/Start. Nothing on this forum, but several on the W204. And on the W213 forum, I found this method for a 2014 CLS...
Now, for our cars (my 2016 at least), the fuse listing shows that slot #91 is also for "System Start/Stop" Except it's a 30amp fuse instead of 10 amp noted in the quote. There is a 10 amp fuse in slot #92, but I can't find a description for it in the fuse listing.
Has anyone found out which fuse to pull, and have you done so and driven with it for days without issue?
At the moment, this is an issue of research interest to me. It seems I can't quite form the habit of pushing the on/off button in the center stack to disable ECO Stop/Start (until it operates when least wanted). And I can't see a reason to buy another of Vladimir's OBDII adapters to deprogram it when simply pulling a fuse might do the trick.
I really don't mind the ECO Stop/Start feature when stopped at a long traffic light. But I am more often aggravated by it than appreciative of its benefits. Specifically, I can't stand ECO Stop working when I am pulling the car into the garage. Space is tight in there, because I have to pull around the C320 parked on the driveway, so I always enter the garage at an angle, and have to straighten out before stopping. Invariably I slow so much that ECO Stop engages, or when I come to a final stop. I park the car in the garage everytime I drive it, while I get stuck at long lights infrequently.
Finally, the constabularies in my hoity-toity town like to split hairs with drivers over coming to a FULL STOP at Stop signs. I don’t want to be shark-bitten for slow-rolling a stop sign (even at 1mph) to avoid the engine stoppage.
I found what appears to be the easiest of ways to defeat this ECO button foolishness. I am driving a 2014 CLS550, and after a little research I found a fuse in the fusebox located in the trunk, a red 10 amp fuse in slot number 91. I removed that fuse, started the car and after about two seconds, the green ECO light went out. Got in drove around town for 45 minutes and the car continued to idle at stop lights, no check engine lights or annoying shut-offs. I can't guarantee it will work on every MB, but would bet it will at least work with the W213. Give it a try, and let me know if it works.

I read a lot about this on the 204 forums as well but never tried it. My ECO light on the button is on, but my car so far has never so much as displayed the yellow ECO in the gauges - so I probably have a weak battery. They’re going to replace it this week under warranty, then I guess I’ll worry about the start/stop. I also don’t mind it at traffic lights but damn it’s annoying when you try to creep somewhere and it starts/stops like 3x quickly.
They could have made this system perfect if they programmed it to stop the engine only when HOLD was activated. Both systems depend on the aux battery so seems like it would be logical.. lol

Instead disabling the system, try to make it working better?
I do have issue with ECO stop when I wait at my gate, but simple unbuckling solves the problem.
I think pulled fuse will light CEL sooner or later, or at least it will make soft code.
Reverse situation is at security checkpoint, when with ECO stop, I unbuckle to get my ID and engine restarts at this moment. The officers were giving me strange looks, so I made a habit of turning engine off when I pull into checkpoint.
I roll 99% of STOP signs even in vehicles without the ECO.

OK, I looked more closely at the Fuse Diagram and list. It appears Fuse #92 is part of the Keyless-Go system. So that leaves Fuse #91 as the only designated "Stop-Start System" fuse.

It is just a thing I do after starting my car.
Door open and push car start button.
Shut door and check gages.
Press ECO OFF button and say it out loud like a pilot. ECO OFF (wife hates this but it works for me)
Then put on seat belt
Then shift into gear and driveor back out of whatever spot I am.
Trick is to turn off before you put on seat belt... this way you will remember.
Seat belt on is the last thing I do before putting into gear.
Heck sunglasses on first.
Radio station chosen.
Try it might work...
Free, simple, works and no issues with MB dealer on check up days.

I'm still stuck on "Shut door and check gages."

ECO Stop/Start was driving me nuts too.
The are plenty of 4-Way stops in my area. I guess I am not as organized/patient as ygmn. My routine was different (I do wear the seat belt and I do check the gages ):
Get to the first stop
Engine shuts off
%$^*W$%!!!
Turn off ECO
Keep driving
When I was enabling Android Auto with OBDII plug from vladimircdi:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-CO...72.m2749.l2649
I also ordered ECO Start/Stop off add on for $89. Love it, no more %$^*W$%!!! on the first stop sign of the drive. It does not disables it completely. It stores the last setting on the engine restart. If you had it OFF when you shut the engine down, it will be OFF when you restart it. And if you had it ON at shut down, it will be ON at a start up.
It is not a "free" option but it was worth it for me.

I really dislike ECO on-off and always turn it off. Plus ,how many duty cycles until you need a new starter and battery? Savings in fuel would never pay for new starter ,battery AND labor . As to carbon footprint, there is some argument that cars pollute the most on startup rather than run.
I owned a BMW 535i (always broken) before my current MB. Dealer had me sign a consent form so they could comply with EPA regulations and reset the start /stop to default to the last setting. MB dealer says that this reset is not available in our software.
But I would think that a knowledgeable coder could tell us how to do it

We had links somewhere that starters for ECO engines are built to last 8 times longer than other options.
ECO is using cylinder firing as main starting option anyway, when starter is only helping.
What is killing batteries faster is mainly "smart charging" that keeps batteries undercharged to recoup braking energy.

For now, I've decided to try (again) teaching myself to habitually turn off the ECO Stop/Start when entering the car.
Typically, I start the car in the garage and back down my driveway into the street BEFORE fastening my seatbelt. Since I use the seatbelt religiously, I figure this would be a good place in procedures to place a visual cue... See the small blue sticker dot placed on the retractor mechanism face.
For some reason I always look at the area before pulling my seatbelt down, so the dot interrupts me long enough to remind me about ECO. I thought about labeling the dot, but decided just the dot itself was enough of a reminder.
So now, I fasten the belt, then reach up and hit the ECO button to turn it off. It's working so far...

Slightly OT but related - do these 2016s not have the yellow ECO thing displayed in the cluster? My 2014 C350 would display yellow ECO when it was not going to shut off. My 2016 E350 displays nothing until the car shuts off, when it displays a green block that says ECO inside of it.

None of my 2014 Es have yellow block neither.
I think the yellow letters indicate the system is ready and activated?
My car often refuses to do ECO stops and would be nice to have indication when system is ready, beside reading the 12 or so parameters on scanner.
Blue dot huh? I'll try to remember that when I get to shape of forgetting things
But by then I hope to have self-driving car.

Good Luck with this DFW - somtimes getting in a routine and doing it every time will make it automatic..

I see Suburu has a similar engine KILL feature or nuisance depending on how you feel about this thing...
and from reading always is on like MB when you start the car.
Is there some DUMB law or regulation over this ECO thing?

The only reason I can think is to avoid customers coming for repair becouse the yellow light is on for long time.
I would appreciate such warning. We drive 5 miles to freeway with lot of lights, where traffic makes for lot of stops. I develop technique that when I see the cars just rolling, I can play with pedals for the car to not go to ECO till we get to solid stop.
Then I get p***ed when with all my technique I come to solid stop and ECO will not engage for some reasons.
I plan to see if 1 of my scanners can monitor the parameters and try to use it while driving.
ScanGauge will show DPF status and voltage, but there is much more to figure out.

I would do this myself, except that I drive the car only once or twice a week and only short distances (that won't warm up the system for ECO to work). Plus I have just a basic, generic (nonMB) scanner. So it would take me weeks of not months to gather any data.

ECO engages with engine at 60C, so it doesn't have to be hot.
I think main reason for ECO not to work is batteries charging, but I notice that when I pull to red light after leaving the freeway, it will not engage till I get to 2nd stop light. I think high exhaust temperature prevents it to come.
Sometimes when I see long wait and ECO did not engage, I can wait 20 seconds and move car like 2" and then ECO will stop the engine.
Pretty crazy stuff and too many parameters to observe, so figuring it out by senses is not going to work.
And again, I am the one who wants ECO to work

I actually don't mind it either, but the 2016 E350 shuts off much less often than my 2014 C350 did. That car would sort of finally get on your nerves shutting off at literally almost every stop. This E350 just had the batteries replaced last week as we made them agree to in the contract when we bought it. I have been driving it every day this weekend and it has shut off twice. It was in the 70s yesterday and 60s today.
I am OK with this but I do wish it would let me know it was ready like the C did.
