thinking of trading my '14 E550 (sedan) for a '18 C43 (sedan)...?
Wanted to poll the community here - thinking about "trading up" to a newer MB, albeit smaller in size and engine.
I've done pretty exhaustive pros/cons but wanted 3rd party opinions to round out my decision process.
Thoughts on going for less mileage, longer warranty, sportier model/engine, 9 speed, etc. for the next handful of years?
Thanks!

My dealer wants to take my E550 and put me in a new E53 AMG. I had a C32 AMG I bought new back in ‘02 and would never go back down in size. I’m 6’-3”, so not the best size for me, plus the back seats are for infants.

Keep your E550. I had a C Class as well. I would never go back.
Its a downgrade, cheaper interior, rough ride and smaller car. Performance is about all it has and with mods a E550 can do that as well.

I hear you. I'm about 6'4" myself and actually felt pretty comfortable in the driver's seat of the C43. Back seat space isn't a primary concern because more often than not, it will just be a party of two. I do, however, feel the smaller car size will be a lot easier to park and maneuver in the city, with would be a big plus.

The facelift '14 E550 is a unicorn. So much power and it still hauls 4 people comfortably through any weather while getting great mpg. Who cares about warranties? Buy a third party warranty and save a bunch of money.

Maybe you should repeat the question in C-class section?

This place is a joke.
Older e-class to a new c-class is not an upgrade, neither is the new e-class which is basically a long wheelbase c-class with bigger body panels. The new c/e class is a cheaply built car with an engine (4 cyl) assembled by Nissan.

The strategic partnership between Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance began five years ago. It includes engine and component manufacturing. Renault supplies supply Daimler with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine for use in its Mercedes-Benz C class. Mercedes supplies its 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine for Nissan’s premium brand, Infiniti. Nissan has a license to make Daimler’s nine-speed automatic transmission for use in Infiniti vehicles.
In any event, the OP was talking about a C43 which is a biturbo V6 that has nothing to do with Nissan.

I agree with you. I had my 2010 e350 in for service and I had a 2019 e300 loaner. I couldn’t wait to get my car back. Nothing thrilling or exciting about the new models in performance or looks, in my opinion. I always have to look twice to see if a new model is a C or E.
Only on my way back I noticed S badge on the trunk.

It is hard to think about what will happen when my current W212 craps out. Nothing in the MB lineup gets me excited at all. I hope they can work a little harder in the styling department.

I concur. With the exception of the GT cars, mainly the GT63. Such a nice ride inside and out, in my eyes of course

We shall see what the facelift W213 brings. An inline 6TT in a more distinct facelift version might be my next car, but a lot depends on what that facelift looks like. My mechanic is telling me that as M278TT engines age, the cooling systems are a ticking time bomb, so I'm sort of glad I went with the M276TT. He's going to be evaluating mine here soon (rare engine in models not currently under warranty) to see if it suffers the same fatal design flaws in the cooling system, namely extremely brittle single use plastic piping.

The 2020 W205 is a fine car. The snobbery on this forum is humorous at times. The W212 you have shared quite a lot of parts in its time with the W204 which was objectively a worse car in basically every way than the W205. I wanted a 2016 W212 and that’s what I bought. But in the future sometime, I absolutely prefer something like a C43 over the new W213.
I say do it.

Ignore Arrie. He’s basically a forum troll with a high post count.

you call me a troll. If you read all of my posts you can actually learn something.
my comment to the OP is not to trade to C-class after E-class because he would regret it dearly after just a month or so doing it. New features mean nothing when you drive the car.
How many helping/advising post have you done Mr. littlebenz?

Again, why in the hell would you trade it in for a C-class of any kind? Your E550 has more power than the C-class AMG. C class is a joke of all MB cars. Don’t go for it...unless you want something to drive on a track.
