I've been on an off a Merc owner with a W211 E550 and E350 4Matic and W220. After driving a Jeep for 3 years, I can't wait to go back. Although, I don't need a car until March 2021, I'm ready to pull the trigger on a W212 E550 4Matic with Pearl Black interior - which I'm in love with. The car has 50K miles on it and a minor accident on the carfa and 2 owners. Based on VIN decoding - the car seems to be the base E550 with no bells and whistles other than the Panoramic roof. Is it a good deal at $26.5K or should I keep searching for something better? What do you think??
Well, it doesn't sound like a bad deal, but lacking more options it is probably at the high end of the price scale. Low miles are good and these cars are very rare, so they command higher used prices. They are amazing cars, but I don't think I could live with a low optioned version. Some will say, "less to go wrong", but Mercedes is in a different class than your average car and I prefer a highly optioned version that really adds to the driving experience.

I don't know where you are located, but price seems a little high to me. milage is great and it is a E550 so rare, there are no more V8 E's, most are now four cylinders {YUCK} so from that perspective, get one while there is one. Just for info's sake, here in Cleveland a 2014 E350 4matic would be 14-16, there are no E550's for sale within a 100 miles currently.
@pierrejoliat I'm located 1200 miles away from the car, so it's a bit more difficult of a decision since I can't see it. But I do feel it's a little overpriced for just base e550 no keyless go - just start. That's all that it has lol
@KEY08 I agree with you. I'm also considering a car that's 60 miles away (vs 1200 like the other one) that's fully loaded but 1500 extra
Here in Dallas you can pick from 4 cars two years newer (2016s) with at least 20,000 fewer miles on the odo and zero CarFax incidents, for about $1,000 more than $26,500. Sure, they're E350s, but hell, you really don't have to have an E550, do you?

Yes, and that's 1000-1500 more than Cleveland so ergo they are 2000-2500 cheaper in Jersey than Texas. But I'm guessing he has east coast access, I have no idea where the OP lives!

I agree. I would negotiate on the loaded model closer to you. I'm sure you can work a better deal than the $28,000 list. Last of the TTV8; go for it!
@KEY08 Both cars SOLD lol ... all I have left is the bare bones. Side questions - your white e550 does it have the pearl/black interior or is it beige? Either way, how hard is it to maintain?

A facelift E550 is a unicorn, as they were only made for one year. I considered getting one in early 2019, but ended up with a certified E400 with tons of options and 28K miles for about 35k. You might be able to find a 16 E400 that's still certified, which is what I'd do at this point if I were you. I'll keep this one until the last year of the W213 E450 is about 3-4 years old and then replace it. E400 is plenty powerful, and a tune gets them close to around 400HP (I use a JB4)).

My interior is the beige leather. The lighter color and pano roof make the cabin seem larger. It is very easy to keep clean. No issues

Yeah, everyone is worried about the cost of repairs if the options break. But my two are pretty well loaded, no issues with bixenons, keyless go (well the handles go on the W211 which is a known problem), parktronic, folding rear seat, power trunk closer etc. The flip side that people forget is that you get to enjoy the options before they break. The pano roof noise is well known on the W212 and I had that fixed in a bout an hour, drop the headliner slightly and tighten up 6 bolts, no more noise. I like the active curve illumination too although at least the base model E550 is still using LED headlights.
It's a Mercedes, it's supposed to be a luxury car, get it with luxury options, I bet the loaded one probably had 8-10k in options, paying an extra $1500 now for them is a bargain. If OP is worried about repairs costs, then maybe a Mercedes isn't for him.
All the standard problems of the W212 mainly apply to the base models.
You said you don’t need a car till the spring then why settle? While rare, the 2014 E550s do come to market. IMO wait for the right E550. Find a well sorted example that your happy with the price and go for it. You will not regret it.

Now is a good time to hold out, used car prices are way up, once the vaccine is out and things return to normal, the prices will probably drop back down again. I would love to find one with the driver assistance package, lighting package, the pano, keyless go, folding rear seat, trunk closer etc., but finding all of them together is really hard usually missing at least one or two of those. If it had the rear entertainment system or multicontour seats, that would be an extra bonus.

I like the interior a bit more, but the exterior styling is bland compared to a W212 facelift with the sport package and LED headlights , at least in my opinion

After owning a W124, W211, and finally a W212 all with the six cylinder engines, I traded for an E550 after 7 months of driving the 2014 E350. Immediately after driving out of the M-B dealers lot I thought to myself, why did I wait so long!

I had a 2011 E350 brand new as my first MB. It is a heavy car for the quite powerful engine but in my opinion it needs more force to move. This is why after about a year with it I traded it in for a 2010 E550. I paid $9000 between the cars. Turned in 38000 miles E350 and picked up the E550 with 14700 miles. This car came with all bells and whistles other than the Night View and rear seat entertainment. Night View might be useful sometimes but entertainment I would have zero use for.
All the gizmos and the bigger engine with $9000 was a bargain. I could not have made a better deal that that. And the car has been rock solid. Changed starter and all air springs that are normal wear issues.
And I can say that you really need the bigger motor, you just don't know it before you drive one.

Agreed. I’ve never driven the e350 however even with the 5.5l v8 in my 2011 e550 you can feel the weight of the car
Been off the site for awhile - but I have to laugh when I read a: "why would you want more power" post... Keep your NA V6 and enjoy the mileage, or whatever... satisfaction it gives you. Our E550 is a complete smile giver - but I'm not afraid of the right foot, and I could give a smack about the price of gas or the mpg's I'm getting... You only go around once in this life, drive what makes you happy... I might still have to own an E63 some day...
Pulled the trigger on this beauty! Luckily the red car with no options - the sales person wouldn't budge $500 so this almost fully loaded beauty came on the market for 1000 less and half the travel distance! What a ride!!
