Let's Talk About Headlights

I noticed one of my headlights had a pink tint this morning, so I guess it is time to replace. I have a 2012 E550 cabriolet, what are my best options for replacement?

Some like the nightbreakers others really like the CBB's your other option is a good stock replacement from either Phillips or Sylvania/Osram D1S.

Usually best to do both, passenger side is tight but do-able, drivers side is accessed through the wheel well.

Thanks for the reply. Are the OSRAM Nightbreakers a white or yellow light? I would prefer a white light.

I don't have them personally, but a friend does, they are whiter than stock by a considerable amount in my opinion. I have also seen the CBB, they are whiter.

I assume the bulbs are D1S Bi-Xenons. I have a cabriolet and would not think the bulbs are different than the sedan.

Depends on whether you have the bixenons or the halogens. It was an option.

The owners manual doesn't really say, but the headlights flip up when I start so I believe they are Bi-Xenons. I have a cabriolet and after looking it appears the pass side will have to be installed by going in through the wheel well. This time of year, probably not something I will attempt myself.

I just need to figure out which bulb to get. It appears the OEM is the Xenarc, which has a color temp of 4250K and 4650 lumens. I was interested in the OSRAM Xenarc Night Breaker Next Gen and it appears they have a color of 4750K and 5200 lumens. It looks like the Philips X-treme Vision Gen 2 has a color of 4800K and 5600 lumens. They all appear to be available in a D1S. I have read that a 5000K color is the whitest light, which is what I want. Would I notice the difference between 4250K and 4800K and 4650 lumens and 5600 lumens? Should I be concerned about the warranty?

I just need to figure out which bulb to get. It appears the OEM is the Xenarc, which has a color temp of 4300K. I was interested in the OSRAM Night Breaker, but it appears they have a color of less than 4300K (although it was difficult to find the color). Go with CBBs - these are 5450K and pure white, also a much better performing bulb than the stock Xenarc - especially at the age your bulbs are now.

Doesn't CBB stand for cool blue boost?

That is correct - and a misleading marketing term, just as them claiming they're 7000k in temp.
