W212 Broken front coil springs

Hi
I have a broken front coil spring on above vehicle and would appreciate any tips / advice on changing them. Plan to do both sides as originals with 200k km.
Thanks
MFK

Many thanks they are great help. Is that spring compressor critical to the job. I just have the standard style in photo.

I've pulled the coils off my 2011 and used the standard compressor type that you pictured. The only difference is I own two pairs so I can have 3 on at a time. Should work just fine.

Part of my post , the front strut part should help........ becareful with springs.
Pay attention to the special socket to torque the strut properly.
Have fun.....

certainly, on older Mercedes, using the generic sort of spring compressor was quite hazardous. if that spring lets go after its out of the vehicle, its like a cannon going off, the amount of force is intense

these idiots are using the right compressor but installed it incorrectly.

I watched that whole thing again, it was like watching a train wreck. Even if the spring *hadn't* broke, they had no clue what they were doing. some 'experts', yeeeesh.

there's another one out there somewhere, of a W123 or W124, and they managed to launch the spring right through the shop wall, leaving a 6" hole.

Just to close this out and thanks again for the information. Completed the job using standard compressors but needed a third one to feel safe. With two on I felt it was like a loaded gun and took a lot of compression to get to fit. Third one made a huge difference. Thanks again

I wonder what the people in the video did wrong. Were the plates not parallel when they were compressing? Was it that they pried it out and moved the plate? I have a great deal of interest in this because I intend to tackle spring removal using a similar too from my W107 next summer. Of course, I wouldn't use it like THAT - on a W107, the only way you can use the common 'Klann Clone" is compressing from above AFTER the subframe has been removed. Doing that, prying is not needed.

Agree, the MB front spring is tough. Also it depends on the claw design of the compressor used and how long the adjustment bolt is.
My compressor is generic, so the adjustment bolt is VERY long and it is not good for W212 because I can not place compressor anyhow I want it,
adjustment bolt will either hit top spring mount plate or lower spring mount plate before I can compress spring to my needs.
A 3rd compressor is nice to have for fine tuning and extra safety. Glad your work done and you are happy and thanks for the update.
I like happy ending
