Unhappy Headlamp dust covers not removable??

Looking to replace low beam lamps on a 2015 E400. Every instruction set I’ve found refers to twisting of the back dust cover by the raised handle running down the middle of the cap. However, my caps have no such handle. Nor do I see a pry point or any gaps. See pictures. The cap and housing appear to be one molded piece? What gives? Anyone seen this before? How are the caps removed?
Thanks for any info or help you can provide

Is it possible you have LED headlights… those wouldn’t need access, since the LED are likely not replaceable (besides entire headlight assembly).

do the front of your headlights look like this?

If so, those are the 'intelligent LED', and have no user servicable parts inside.

You're going to need to source the entire assembly, and yes the dealer is not a good option. You can try eBay for OEM used units. These will need programming to the car which will require you to find a mechanic with the proper computer to do that.

$3,800 per headlight is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some threads here on how to address the condensation issue. Given the cost of these, they should be better sealed (or ventilated), whichever.

Just short of replacing both lamps, I would install permeable patches first and see if the issue improves.
The ricer crowd uses something called a breather patch on the back of each lamp housing to allow moisture to escape.
It requires the removal of each lamp and drilling small holes in the backs of each housing (one high/one low). I would warm the housing while pumping compressed air into each drilled hole until the the lens clear somewhat, then cover each hole with a permeable patch.
it's a big job to remove and reseal those clear lens; you can always approach that project if the leaks are excessive. I haven't had mine off the car, but most lens are sealed to each housing with a butyl caulk. it typically requires heating (200-300F) to soften. AliExspess sells replacement lens for some Benz models.

I google the PN, A2128202739 (left) and A2128202839 (right), at least for my 2016 w/ the iLED lights, and they look to be about $1700 each, and I'd figure at least $200 for dealer install, and another $200 for dealer coding, that gets you to about $3800 *total*.

I seem to remember lamps for an E39 were going for about $750 each from a dealer in 2000, Cheesy chinese replacements were about a 1/3 the price for a pair. At the same time Lexus was charging $1500 each for theirs. made for great entertainment on the BMW forums.

sure, the halogen lamps for my 1993 and 1994 W124 are quite affordable too.

Are they functional, if so all you need is the covers replaced, and there are places that do that for about $300-$400.

Thanks y’all

I really appreciate the info and perspectives. I’ll need to ask dealer for an install price and buy the units online. The videos I’ve watched show the removal of the headlamp assemblies to be a lot more involved than I trust myself to do. The required programming after the change seems to be a procedure only a dealer can do?
The kicker is that the driver side has a LOT of moisture but seems functional except the auto dimmer (car keeps throwing an error on the middle screen) BUT the passenger side lens is clear and the low beam isn’t working.
Oh well, what is life without challenges, eh? Three weeks ago I was looking to buy a 2021 but there is no acceptable inventory because (I’m told) of the chip shortage.

To date, my $5 repair from Feb 2019 has resulted in zero condensation issues - this was in the accessible non-led housings on my 2011. I have no idea if this will provide a solution for you, but may be worth a try.
