Oil Leak at front of intake manifold
I have an oil leak form what looks like a vacuum line, I am assuming it's part of crankcase ventilation? I did not trace it back as I thought I would be able to find out what it was by looking at parts diagrams but so far I have not had any luck.
I have a 2010 E550 Base Sedan.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Stephen

I cleaned it up and there appears to be more oil under the actuators. The vacuum line in the photo with all the oil on it goes to the MAP so I can't see oil coming out from there so it must be somewhere else. Not sure if it is really enough for me to worry about or not.

Benz PCV dumping oil in the intake...
I think all the engine oil stashed in the intake plenum comes through our special PCV "crankcase breather".
A good amount of the overflow that makes it past the dirty valves normally gets combusted... Some engine feature a small overflow tank to prevent dumping oil directly on the garage floor... clean luxury.
👍
I am not sure any new PCV parts can help keep oil out of this design.
How much oil between oil change are you loosing?
My M276 has been drinking 1 Qt of oil since new.

I saw the PCV on the back of intake manifolds online but it looks like it's the entire manifold or nothing. I have only had the car about 18 months and have only change the oil twice. When I first got it then after the first year even though I had not driven that many miles. Not much driving lately.
Anyways I will check the consumption on the next change.
That's quite a bit of oil though 1qt, my old diesel benz just barely hits 1qt (6k miles per oil change) and it has all kinds of little drips. I think I have replace about half the gaskets.

Possibly crankcase gases squeeze oil out, you need to check the valve and ventilation system of crankcase gases. You also need to check the entire oil supply system for leaks and of course, change the oil here oil for 3.5 ecoboost you can see the best oil for your car, I use Amsoil.

How does one go about doing that on these cars? It looks like the PCV valve cannot be removed from the intake, at least I have not seen it for sale separately. With my brother-in-law's BMW he was having crankcase ventilation issues and I ended up replacing the intake manifold and that fixed it (along with coils, plugs and about half a dozen plastic tubes and such)

Like mentioned, my guess is the PCV system is not working as well as it should... common with age and mileage. Disconnect the vacuum line to verify presence of oil inside.
I would start with the separator at the rear of the passenger-side cylinder bank. There's a hose that connects the cover to the TB, disconnect and look for signs of oil in the tube. Usually that cover starts to leak down the back of the cylinder (super common issue). So I'd reaplce the cover and the seperater "donut" attached to the cam as well.
The other separator is on top of driver-side cylinder bank (front) like a black plastic box with a hose that runs back to top of TB. Same, disconnect the tube and inspect for oil.

The intake manifold is well known to go on these engines which is basically the same as the m272 with two extra cylinders. As mentioned above, change the oil separator and the breather cover, they're both known to go bad and they allow oil into the intake manifold and that gums up the flaps. You should have a scanner and check for pending codes, flaps may already be going depending on mileage. The oil separator is reverse threaded so turn the other way to loosen/tighten. The driver's side separator doesn't seem to go as often but I got a kit from FCPEuro and changed all of it anyway. There is a lever on the intake that should move freely but if it's a little stiff, the flaps are getting gummed up and getting ready to go. There are repair kits for the lever which sometimes breaks, but the real repair is to replace the intake not just the lever because eventually the flaps will break off and cause engine damage.

Many lever repair kits out there. When the lever breaks that's a sign that the flaps are getting gummed up. If you replace it with a metal lever, the lever doesn't break and it eventually forces the flaps to break which causes engine damage.

Hello Stephen, did you ever find the source of the oil leak? I have this same issue on my 2011 E550. If you did the crankcase vent valve kit from FCP Euro, did that help the issue?

I did not, unfortunately the car got written off as a total loss when someone ran a red light. I can say it was a very safe car though, I had no injuries and the car spun around and hit a pole.
