2014 E350 sedan
New here, help needed!

Hi guys! Im new to the forum! I got a great deal on a 2014 E350 last week, I've been wanting one for a while and absolutely love the car! I found a great deal on one with 85,000 miles, which is higher than I wanted, but I couldn’t pass up the deal I got. It is unbelievably clean on the inside and outside, and appears to be well taken care of. I put it on a lift and checked the underbody and it has absolutely zero rust or leaks. Suspension components check out, and Engine sounds very nice.

I dont know the full history of the vehicle except for whatI could find on carfax. No accidents, and it doesnt look like it was regularly maintained at a mercedes dealer that reports to carfax, but it certainly was maintained somehow if I had to guess. With that being said, I always change all fluids on a used vehicle for peace of mind and to give me a starting point.

So my question is this, I pulled a spark plug, and it is a Bosch V6S113328.I do know my vehicle is the flex fuel version, so the plug doesnt surprise me but I cant tell if it is a factory plug, or if they have been replaced before. Im not great at reading plugs, soI am going to post some pictures and hopefully some of you can help me out!

My second question is this. I know the 7g tronic has some valve body and conductor plate issues. My transmission seems pretty good for the most part. Over the past week and driving it more, I have noticed that the shiftfrom 1-2, and the downshift from 5-4 feel more noticeable than they should at times. Not a hard unsettling shift, but not as silky smooth as the other gears. I also dont know if the transmission has ever been serviced, and I have already scheduled that to be done soon. I guess my question is, should I be worried about this?I know on some vehicles a fresh service can work these problems out, but this particular transmission having the history makes me more concerned. Is it likely a service could help, or probably something bigger? Just trying to figure out where to go from here.

thanks in advance guys and look forward to joining this group!

Buy plugs from dealer (based on your VIN) and properly torque per MB spec... this will avoid any issue with "improper" index of plugs. IIRC, plugs are different for flex. As far as the transmission it could simply be adaptation, based on PO driving habits. That said, it wouldn't hurt to service the transmission if the history is unknown... should have been done at 70k. A couple hundred dollars for peace of mind if you do it yourself.

Buy a MB specific scanner. Enjoy!

Congratulations, and good luck with your E350. Enjoy it

The original plugs would have a MB logo (star) on them, so I would say the plugs have been changed.

MB OEMs Bosch plugs, so the Bosch ones should be fine.

Congrats, My 212 used to act like that when shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear in Sport Mode as well. I don't think what you described indicates a problem but I would have it inspected for piece of mind .
Happy Driving

Thanks for the responses! Any other maintenence or areas specifically to check on these vehicles guys? or any pcv components or anything that go bad frequently? So far I am going to:

replace spark plugs
Get trans service done
Flush coolant
Flush brakes
Clean throttle body and change air filter

Thanks again

apparently early M276/M278 engines are prone to oil leaking into the wiring harness by way of a camshaft sensor or something. this oil can go all the way through the harness and gum up the ECM. if its caught early, you just need to replace the sensor or actuator, whatever it is. if the oil has migrated into the harness, you need to replace the harness

the service schedule for my 2016 4Matic (your 2014 should be similar)... the dashboard will tell you how soon the next interval is, like "107 days to Service B7"

“A” Service at 12 months or 10,000 miles, then every 2 years or 20k (eg, odd 10k intervals)

“B” Service at 24 months or 20,000 miles, then every 2 years or 20k (eg, even 10k intervals)

Every 10k miles or year (A and B)
  • Read service data, reset ASSYST PLUS display (A,B)
  • Oil and filter change (A,B)
  • Check brake fluid level (A,B)
  • Check coolant level (A,B)
  • Inspect tires (A,B)
  • Inspect brake pads, rotors (A,B)
  • Check/correct tire pressure (A,B)
  • Check/correct spare pressure (A,B)
  • Check warning/function lights (A,B)
  • Check interior and instrument lighting (A,B)
  • Check horn (A,B)
  • Check washer fluid (A,B)
  • Check exterior for visible damage (A,B)
  • Check windshield for damage (A,B)
  • Check wiper blades (A,B)
  • Check first aid kit expiration (A,B)
  • Clean visible area of water deflector (A,B)
  • Check parking brake (A,B)
Every “B” (20k miles or 2 years)
  • Check exterior lighting (B)
  • Check wipers,washers (B)
  • Replace charcoal interior dust filter (B)
  • Check poly V belt for wear (B)
  • Check vehicle underside for leaks,damage (B)
  • Check tires for damage/cracks (B)
  • Check condition of steering, tie rods (B)Reply
  • Check front axle and ball joints (B)
  • Check rear axle and ball joints (B)
  • Check spring/strut/shocks (B)
  • Check drive shaft flexible couplings (B)
  • Check power steering fluid (B)

Additional work:
  • Replace brake fluid - every 2 years
  • Clean/Lubricate Panoramic Roof - every 30K/3 years
  • Replace engine air filter - every 50k/5 years
  • Replace spark plugs - every 50k/5 years
  • Replace ATF oil/filter - every 60k/6 years
  • Replace fuel filter - every 150k/15 years

I'm planning on doing the differential fluid front and rear along with the ATF when that comes due. Actually, the car is 5 years old now, but only has 33420 miles.

MB OEMs Bosch plugs, so the Bosch ones should be fine.
While Bosch is the original maker for the plugs, it seems that what they ship to the Mercedes dealers is different than what they sell directly to the aftermarket as noted by several threads. That's why there's the recommendation to buy the plugs directly from the dealer so you know they will index correctly. Or if you get Bosch plugs from an aftermarket source while they're cheaper, make sure you check the indexing on the plugs to make sure they line up right.

Congratulations on your Mercedes purchase and willingness to work on it. I still like to wrench on cars although my back complains a lot these days. I think the coolant replacement interval is something like 150K miles. Check your manual. I would at least put that at the bottom of your repair list as a non urgent item.
