Xentry, but the PassThru version

Hi Guys,

I suggest, if you are keen to do proper Xentry grade health scanning, but not coding say for START STOP be gone, but can do lots of TEST, go and google how to get Xentry PassThru.

For those who does not know what Xentry PassThru is, let me explain to my best ability...coz me also an extremely newbie for Xentry related 101.

The right to repair in Europe and USA has made car manufacturers to abide by certain rules, where an Indy shop can access ( for an hourly fee ) manufacturers servers to do certain ( not all ) repairs
where the data will come from manufacturers server. https://b2bconnect.daimler.com/GB/wo...y-pass-thru-eu

So those Indy workshop or petrol head can use certified J2534 interface box for many brands of cars , not only MB.
https://www.sae.org/learn/content/c0733/
https://www.sae.org/standards/content/j2534/2_201901/
https://www.kvaser.com/developer-blo...uction-part-1/

So, if a person can buy clone Xentry multiplixer C4 or whatever they call it and do serious stuff with Vediamo software + Xentry.......... what I am disscusing is not to that high level.

Why the Passthru is interesting ?
Because the interface device, a clone version is under US$30 from Aliexpress and small like a OBD2 dongle.
So if you already have a Windows 7 or 10 laptop, some effort at Youtube to search the video : Xentry 2020 PassThru , you will surely find it..... Amazing isn't it ? ...hhmmm

Now, if you guys fear of KeyGen, don't bother to try obtaining the Xentry PassThru I am speaking of.
Don't PM me asking me where to find the details in Youtube, its too easy and you wont miss it.

Good luck guys...........

===========================

Why I have to tell you guys about this is because the wealth of information and possible test Xentry PassThru can do will open your eyes to know about your car more.
I don't care about those coming to MB for freebie repair advice and then hit n run case, I care about members who are passionate about their cars and not stingy to share knowledge.
Some members here are VERY nice people.
So in case NICE people wanna learn more about the cars...... find some teasers below :

Health scanning 100% all modules read.

I can do airconditioning 7 way venting ( air distribution )...which I always wanted for the LEG + BODY

Yes, LEG + BODY air distribution possible now. BTW using AUTEL MS906BT I have disabled the stupid FRESH AIR FLAP WILL OPEN NO MATTER WHAT...AFTER 30 MINUTES. Now it remain closed.

This is good shi-et

Data gold-mine. Now we can know how and when a certain code made it to be a CEL/MIL and yada yada. No more guessing a 3rd party scanner interpretation of a DTC code actual meaning... we use the MB ones

OK enough teasing around.

Let me remind again. YOU CAN NOT DO CODING with this naughty Xentry PassThru. At least my dumb IT knowlegede said so ...LOL.

Have the fun IT adventure guys......................

Surya, I took that picture in Cancun Mexico specially for ya:

great match

Xentry in your hands will be far more powerful than after market scanners. Already you reconfigured the limitations of your A/C vents.

I've wanted a Xentry since witnessing the dealer unwillingness to address my battery discharge issue.

No reason, none, for any owner attempting DIY to not have this level of diagnostic capability...

Great information, thank you! I should get this all figured out, I would love to tweak some of those climate settings.

Tempting to try to go even further into true coding, but this is probably a much better first step. I still dream of finding a coding that enables taillights always-on in conjunction with all other lighting settings...

I shall give hint where in youtube I got the Xentry Pass Thru.

01. I pay no one directly. I become a 1 month sponsor for that channel that is all.
02. No purchase of hardisk or the sort. Pure download via a link.

Those may and may not be possible, but depending on your programming skill I guess. They have a special engineering software called VEDIAMO
https://www.ecartool.com/en/diagnosi...vediamo-detail
It is complex to use I read, data much in German language too...LOL
This one can destroy the car if used incorrectly

Hope these questions aren't too stupid. What I'm trying to do is read codes and maybe exercise some tests, I'm not looking to change the functionality of the car, just to have more in depth troubleshooting....

(I) When I look at sites offering the complete Xentry system they have a bulky interface box and an array of cables, so I get that more was being done in the box but am wondering why so many cables - do they all communication with individual sub systems? E.g. do they allow comm's with the gearbox without having to have the rest of the car, i.e. to the ODBII port, connected?
(II) I would put this system on an old laptop that wouldn't need to do anything else, so am not worried about shady software, however for and extra $25 or so there are vendors offering the hardware and software, e.g. Newest Xentry 2021.06 Diagnostic Software Remote Install With Tactrix Openport 2.0 Ecu Chip Tuning Tool Obd 2 Obd2 Scanner Tool - Diagnostic Tools - AliExpress - any comments on the Tactrix system?

The car in question is a 2010 E550, US version.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

There's several forums, full of mostly eastern Europeans, that post the latest and greatest of the passthru and the one with the multiplexer. Once you figure out their poorly documented instructions and run through it once or twice, setting them up becomes pretty easy.

I agree that much on YouTube is “amazing”, using videos from that channel gave me the confidence to get power folding mirrors working.

Thanks in advance,

I followed Surya's approach:
1 - Member of an amazing video group, downloaded the latest stable Xentry available
2 - Order the Tactrix OpenPort from AliExpress
3 - Took one of the older laptops I had sitting around, i5-6000 processor, with 8GB, and added a 250GB SSD (do not use HDD for Xentry too slow)
4 - Installed Xentry by double-checking while following the video from (1)

I already have an iCarsoft scanner, and the differences are night and day. Just the fact that I can get into the specific car directly w/o perusing 5 menu levels in the iCarSoft is worth my time.

What will I have done different?
1 - Laptop type: luckily I used a "notebook style" laptop, i.e. no DVD reader, lighter than another one I have.
2 - Wish my "touchscreen" laptop were light but it is too heavy (DVD + older touchscreens are heavy)
3 - Whenever I see an "inexpensive Windows tablet", I may move the software. Need to check if it works first though.

My 2c.

I have the clone AliExpress Tatrix and original one too.
Original one more stable, but the Clone I got is also very good.
Speed wise, about the same.

I said more stable is less "hang" of the Xentry sofware itself.
When I do test and sometime change to different feature ( out of test page ) fast and repeated, the Xentry "hang"

Hmmm, I wasn't aware there were clone Tactrix, I just looked for the name and hit buy. Hopefully for $30 I'll be able to get going, if it is too buggy then I'll step up to the original from Amazon.

Sorry, I should have highlighted that as well in my summary.
Mine is a clone, and so far so good. I recall Xentry hanging once on me and I had no clue what I did and guessed I disturbed the connection/cable myself by mistake.. @S-Prihadi Thank you for answering that one for me

This thread is several years old. If you want to find out about XENTRY, Google "XENTRY". However, it's not as simple to install, activate, and configure as initially presented. If you are serious about doing your own work, skip the Pass-Thru version and get the full system from @BenzNinja who also has the ability to access Mercedes' online servers and program changes to your car, as well as, run diagnostics, update software, fix coding problems, etc. You're going to have to invest more than $30 to do it right, but "doing it right" will pay for itself very quickly.

Search for BenzNinja on the forums or go to www.benzninja.com.
