Undercarriage rust need advice (pics included)

Looking for opinions on circled components showing significant amounts of rust. Does anyone see anything I should be concerned about? I'm especially interested in the area the arrow is pointing to. It looks like work was done in that section previously.

I wouldn’t call it significant… I’d say pretty typical of a winter driven car that’s 10 years old or so. Eventually it’s going to rot out, but likely not
before something major gives out or is wrecked.

Take a look at the front side of the rear subframe, usually they rot out there first. There’s an opening on each side, facing the rear wheels, which collects debris and water.

For the most part it looks like surface rust and often it looks worse than it is. Take a pick or screw driver and poke the areas.

The only place I’d be semi-concerned is around the spare wheel tub. That’s relatively thin sheet metal, so it more prone to rot out.

Get an opinion of a professional, weigh how the rest of the car is and what other opinions for cars you have.

Ultimately your call.

I'm not an ace number one mechanic like bmwpower but having grown up in Pittsburgh in the 60's and 70's that's nothing.

Thank you both for your opinions.
I guess it's not as bad as I initially thought given New England seasonality.
Will give the susceptible areas a coat of primer to slow down the rusting process and keep rolling in the meantime.

Not sure if you plan to clean up, or prepare the area before coating. In doubt, as bmwpowere36m3 suggested, get the advice or service of a professional. Nothing worst than protecting the rust and allow it to silently continue under the coating.

Yeah, that rust is basically nothing. Maybe the car will rust away in another 20-30 years. I wouldn't bother doing anything with that. I would take it to a car wash and get an undercarriage wash once in a while. I typically do that at least 2-3 times during the winter and one final time after the snow stops.

Non-issue but to make you feel better, get a product called Rust Encapsulator by Eastwood. It will cover it and seal it so the rust will not continue to spread.

No biggie. Check it once a year. If OCD prevents you from sleeping at night, liberal coating of this stuff on areas of concern:
